Usual problem, unlike some, I can't get a decent rev signal from either of the 2 suggested edis wires (2 and 11?) Can't remember now! And I've also tried the 2 diode 2 wire trick from the coil pack. I either get the counter reading half, dying after a minute or dying over 2-3k revs. I've tried a couple of aftermarket counters I had as well.

Question is, will a standard counter from a Mondeo, escort, puma that have the wasted spark system work if I wired it up to my ofab loom?. Looking at around £35 for a fiesta rs turbo instrument panel on eBay! Could get some bits from the scrappy for a fiver!

Pin 11 on the EDIS, not pin 2.
Pin 2 is for the engine management. IDM or something..

What rev counter are you connecting it to?
A coil type rev counter should work in pin 11. ( xr2 )
One that works off of the induction coil.. Like a Smiths RVI won't work.
Neither will an efi type counter.

What management are you using?

Jason.

When it reads half you can recalibrate your rev counter for EFI. If you take it all apart there is a potentiometer (variable resistor) somewhere in there for calibration.

Yeah I've read about being able to calibrate it but don't have anything to read the revs to make sure its calibrated right.

I have the standard rev counter from when it was a 1.1, the other 2 I tried were cheapo aftermarket ones I had stuffed in a drawer. Its ofab I'm using.

Was having a rummage about this aft before work and there's a small box on the green wire that comes up to the dash. Any idea what that is?

I have OFAB management and having it running off pin 11 as suggested (there's already a flying lead to connect to, green and yellow iirc) My rev counter didn't work. Took it to pieces and there was some bad solder joints. Re-soldered them and all is now OK :)
