Might give this a try on here as there seems to be a resurgence of people here.

I've got a headlight out ( not working ) on my Mk2 Ghia.
This is the h4 bulb.
Bulb works. But you switch to the second position on the stalk and I'm only getting about 7volts at the plug.
Other side is fine.

I've never seen this problem before.
Any advice?
Need it sorting as I drive home from work in the dark.

Jason.

Swap bulbs to rule out the bulb first.

- Clean the H4 plug out as much as poss.
- Shove a new bit of wire into the ground of the H4 plug (should be the right hand side looking into the plug - but check first) and the ground to the engine/chasis/known good ground.
- Get a multimeter onto the middle pin and see what voltage you get, if its low you can follow it all back for chaffe/breaks

Does it have the dim dip system Jason? There’s a couple of extra relays in that which could be a source of gremlins. Otherwise, earth connection?

Not sure what you mean.

Dim dip Jason is a thing on old cars. Where the dip comes on dimly with the side. Can’t remember if fiestas do it though.

If I recall correctly.

Position 1 is the little bulb.
Position 2 is the dim section of the H4 bulb AND the little bulb.
The super bright ( blue light on dash ) is like above.
But super bright.

Jason.

My red MK2 had dim dip, I assume the blue one did too, it's so you can't drive around with just sidelights on.

Dim dip only came on the later cars Jason, 86 on or so I think. What age is the car you’re talking about?

The car is an 84.
B reg.
So an early one.
My first actually!

I've not had a chance to have a look at it yet.
But when I do, I'll let you all know.

Jason.

I had this, was a poor connection on the Fuse due to corrosion. Fuse got so hot it melted the fuse box, rewired it with external fuse holders and all ok

That's quite possible actually.

I'll have a look when I get time.
Spent the day replacing the alternator.

Lol.

That's not a bad idea that.

I'll be honest.
I sorted the exhaust last week.
Having done that.. I was done with crawling around the car so haven't lifted the bonnet since.
So it's still cycloptic.

Jason.
