cibo is correct. The 1.6 is about an inch or so taller than the 1.3! (I found this out many moons ago by buying a 1.6 cam belt cover for my 1.3........ it didn't fit!)
The 1.4 is the same height as the 1.6 btw!

internals differ as using 1.3 pistons in 1.6 ups compresion

why would you want to up compression tho ?

im gonna really hate bringing this up
but
1.3 pistons will only fit in a EARLY hemi engine,

did we establish yours was an early engine.

85 or earlier stamped on the head?

hmmmm
i see the stroke is pretty much the only difference internally so potentially i am wrong but im sure they where the same height.

the 1.3 is a inch shorter for sure, any of us old skool ford boys will say the same ,

hence why the xr2 has the spacers on the cradle to drop the engine a bit,

pistons are slightely different hence the change in compresion ratio :)

I'm pretty sure blocks on 1.3 and 1.6 are same size its the crank that has slightly shorter throw hence the higher crown on pistons

I had a race engine a few years ago built into a 1.3 block and it had 1.6 crank, rods and pistons

bore size on 1.3 and 1.6 are same to.

I think the 1.3 crank has a longer stroke than 1.6 and rods were shorter

Bore size on 1.3 and 1.6 is the same at 80mm but the 1.3 has a shorter stroke at 64.5mm as opposed to the 1.6's stroke of 79.5.
This is the reason the 1.3 is shorter!

im slightly confused to whats being sggested, are you saying put the 1.6 crank and pistons into the 1.3 block to up compresion, or are you saying put the crank from the 1.3 and the pistons into a 1.6 block or have i missed the point totally?

because what i thought if you put the 1.3 gear into the 1.6 block then you would end up lowering compresion instead of upping it?

not sure on this one

I know you can put 1.3 pistons into a 1.6 engine to raise compression

al i know is my first race engine in my XR2 5 years ago was built using a 1300 block

so you put the 1.3 pistons into a 1.6 block and it ups compression surely this means the pistons must be taller than the 1.6 pistons ?? correct ??

only in the middle ?? don't get ya surely if its taller its taller ? also is this why the compression is upped then as the pistons are taller ?
