Hi all

could anyone tell me which flywheel is best to use on a silvertop 1.8 zetec, which im going to be running on a carb with edis 4 and a CVH xr3i/rs turbo gear box.

I've been reading and it seems I need a 36-1 flywheel to work with basic edis 4?

any other advise such as which clutch to use as well would be grealty apreciated?

Thanks in advance

frst, xr2i one, or an efi xr3i one are the best, runner up to that would be an 1800zetec one from a focus/escort/fiesta.

What about a fiesta rs turbo flywheel then you can run a decent clutch too

As long as it's an EFI ( Series 2 ) and not the MFI series one, then yes. It'll be fine.

It has to have the 'teeth' on the rear of the flywheel.
Like the one on the left.

The one on the right is a standard CVH flywheel and won't work with the standard CPS.

I'm running the exact same setup.
1.8 Zetec on Carb.
Megajolt and EDIS 4.
EFI CVH flywheel with LUK RST clutch.

Works a treat. :)

HTH.

Jason.

You need to drill bolt holes on a cvh fly wheel to 10.5mm as they are too small. But easy enough to do.

Price is a bit severe on that one  , for a few more quid you could buy a proper lightened steel one. But yes if it's an EFi one it should fit.

Here's an 1800 Zetec flywheel on Ebay for £30.

Ford Focus MK1 Flywheel (1.8 Zetec) 98-05

The CVH Efi one is slightly lighter but is getting hard to find now plus you have to widen the bolt holes. Personally I think £50 max would be the going rate for an Efi flywheel.

Hello mates! I have a problem with my rev counter, I have mounted a zetec silvertop 1.8 escort gti engine code rkc, my ignition is esc and my flywheel is original rkc with bc gearbox, is it possible that the failure is the flywheel?
cheers.

Odd way to dredge up a 7 year old post but no, the flywheel will have zero effect on the RPM signal if the engine is running.
Sounds like you either have a dead tacho, or a weak signal from ESC/EDIS to the unit

As above.
Or you've wired it wrong.

But please.. PLEASE!
Ditch the ESC unit.
They are CRAP!

It's the equivalent of dropping Usain Bolt into your car and chopping off one of his feet.
Sure, he'll still run fast. But that bloody stump will slow him down.

Megajolt / Nodiz or something else.
But ditch the ESC unit.

Jason.

hey! thanks for the information, I have tried several tacho including a new and original one, the problem is that it goes to 4000rpm and only marks 2100rpm in the tacho, all the wiring is correctly installed and tested. cheers and sorry for my english

hi jason, I do not know the quality of the module esc / edis for the modifications of zetec in xr2 mk2.
what module would you recommend and you know where I can get an installation guide, I do not have much knowledge of electricity xd

So your getting half reading. You need to fit a diode (or you manually adjust the tacho pot)

Something like

should work

I've personally only ever had experience of the ESC units and Megajolt.
But there are plenty of other systems out there.
Really you need to decide on which one you want before even considering the wiring.

But really.
Get rid of the ESC unit as soon as you can afford a "real" ECU.
Remember, these ESC units were made for 1.1, 1.3 and 1.6ltr engines with a different chamber characteristic.
So the maximum advance is short of what the Zetec engine can handle.
You simply won't get anything like full power with an ESC unit fitted.

Jason.

hey haz87! the tachometer is regulated in high but in low failures, I make case to the jason partner to mount a module megajolt, that way I will get more performance to all the modifications that the car has.
many thanks,cheers.
