Who's still lurking?

I was 17 when I first joined this forum, still at school and my first car had a mint shell.
I'm now 36, 3 children and I'm a CCTV engineer, and about to transfer to be a surveyor.
I wish I'd have invested in bitcoin.

About 15 cars later, most of them being BMW's, and I end up with a MK6 fiesta TDCI.

Life is good, although I have lost many people along the way.

Tell me what you guys have been up to?
I miss my fiesta friends.

I'm just here for the blub emoji. :blub:

Aged 20 or so and still at university when first found the forum, running a succession of life expired mk2s mostly 1.1 engined examples. When one died I generally bought another either to replace it or harvest the required parts. I think I was up to about five of them at one point before moving and needing to slim the collection down.

Moved again and got rid of what I still had in Scotland, but picked up an early mk2 XR2 which I kept for ten years. That got sold to a colleague and the current fleet comprises a 3 series estate, my wife has a Mini convertible and I also own very tired 1989 Renault 19 as a token sh!te old car to tinker with.

I’m 44 now with a 9 year old son and back in Jersey working as a Civil Servant. I’m also perpetually skint thanks to how much it costs to live over here - the earnings are a bit higher than mainland UK but accommodation expenditure is far higher! So I think my mk2 days are over but you never know when that euromillions win is going to happen.

Had just turned 19 when I joined, now 38, married (12 years) with an 8yr old girl. I'm a civil engineer designing roads/drainage/levels etc for new housing developments and various commercial developments.

Sold my first XR2 after 6 years back in 2011 after it had been off the road for a few years. Tried to buy it back a couple of times.

Bought another XR2 in 2010 which then got swapped for a Robin Hood 2B kit car (really f*cking bad idea that I wish I hadn't done).

After that had a spate of a few things: Nissan 300ZX (Z31 - very cool), Audi S4 (B5 - loved that), Toyota Hilux Surf (cool old thing), Isuzu Trooper (rusty old bag). Skoda Octavia 4x4 (surprisingly quick understated estate) then an Audi TT.

Current dailies are 2011 Audi Q5 (being replaced next month by a new Nissan X-Trail) and 2007 Audi A6

Currently no fun cars as we bought a house built in 1938 back in 2021 and that has been sucking every available penny.

Glad to hear you guys are still about 🙂
There's some really nice cars in those lists.
I'm expecting Jason to pop up at some point.
I wonder where all the other members are and how they've been.
This forum is a ghost of its former self.
I think a lot of forums were pretty much killed off by Facebook and then the final nail in the coffin was when photobucket decided to kill off all picture hosting.
This forum was a real hub of activity before that and despite never meeting most of you in real life, I feel like you were all my close friends.
KP, Rodney,. and MK2 Steve were my close mates on here and always helped me with my red MK2 pop that had white Weller's.
I remember both of your fiestas Ecosse and Craig.
Among some other member cars, I always thought they were the hero cars of the forum.
I'm glad you're still about, I wouldn't know how to talk to you otherwise.

I was in my first year of uni when I created this site at the age of 20! Now I'm 43, married (4 years), and work as a Microsoft SQL Database Administrator for a camera company (16 years).

I had a silver VW Golf TDi150 for ages (the longest I've ever had one car) until the cam snapped, so then bought a 2011 Audi A4 which I had for about 3 years.

My current daily is a 2021 Tesla Model 3 long range. I also still have my Harley which I've now owned for the last 18 years!

Boo!

Yeah. I'm still around.
Now 51.

Still rocking around in a Mk2 Fiesta.
There have been a LOT of changes for me over the past few years.

I joined when this site was on the original server. Brave or something.. I can barely remember that far back.
It was black.
Was probably around 1999.
Owned a MK2 Fiesta continually since 1997.

I split from my wife and kids in 2019.
Moved from Manchester to County Durham.
Own a house here.
Work in Morrisons. Hate it. But it's a job and it pays the bills.
Still got the 4 cars.
The Blue B reg 1.1 Ghia that used to be my wifes. My daily.
My Black Zetec powered 1.8 F reg XR2. Needs welding.
My 1.1 D reg Festival that needs a complete rebuild.
And my Mk2 1600e Cortina.
The Cortina will be for sale shortly.
I bought it as a planned family car. I don't have a family to move around so I don't need the Cortina.

The lockup is gone. Being turned into a housing estate as I type this.

Jason.

I found the Fast Ford from December 2001 where we went to Aldon in Birmingham for the rolling road.

Amazingly I managed to enter my old login on http://ub2.homepagetools.com/wayne/UltraBoard.pl (but via the way back machine) and have a mooch around, there’s still some very old topics accessible (2001 vintage so possibly immediately before a change of board software). Not great when doing it on a smartphone, must grab a laptop and have a proper look soon!

I joined in 2005 when I was 20, where have all the years gone?
This site was responsible for me deciding to turbo my XR2 :wall: :blub: It's probably lucky if its covered 3k miles since then.....
I'm now a self employed security engineer and married 10 years last month with two kids (5 & 8 ).
My little boy is car daft and loves the XR2 :cool!:
All going well it's going for an MOT next week and we can have some fun in it!

Grant

Yes. I have that one too.
My 'fateful' xr2 being the one far right I think.

I still look in from time to time.

Was a uni student desperate to get a XR2 when i first joined. I have now owned mine for 13 years and had 10 years working in Ford product development. How things can change.

I'm still here.
The Fiesta is still running, love this setup (Valencia 1.3 + DCNF36).
My girls love it. They make me proud.

The TC1 Taunus is rotting in the yard.
And for the last week and a half..... well, it's a war zone here. Trying to keep it together.

Hi all! Boo&dy hell - it must be 15 years since I've been on here!!! Nick Sanderson here who used to race XR2s back in the day (2005 Champion - 18 years ago!!!!!!).

I'd completely forgotten about this site but it popped up when I was looking for some advice - I have an F-plate 1988 in white on the road still!

I recognise some old names on here so hello again!

Cheers,
Nick.

Stay safe man - I've worked in Israel a little bit the last few years, really enjoyed my time there.

Howdy Nick! You're either back home, or you've got the only XR2 in Queensland?

Nice! I'm shoving an ST170 lump up the nose of an old Dutton Phaeton at the moment...

haha - I've been back in the UK since 2015....I had 2 XR2s on the road - sold a D-plate to a friend who is busy restoring it and I have an F-plate that I'm driving now - it's nowhere near concourse but it's in decent condition - I still work with David Ellesley at Race Car Consultants so they sorted it out.

Good to hear from you - can't believe how long it's been on here!

That's a nice day job Nick - talk about doing what you love / loving what you do!

Weren't you doing something on the QHSE / process safety side before? Again, this is turning the clock waaaaay back!

I had a huge clear-out of all Fiesta stuff a few years ago and basically took a few years out from all motorsport to finish building my house. Then bought a 205GTi and went forest-bashing for a bit. Then bought a kit car to do cool skids in. Then an ex Ford Rally Academy RST because it was cool.

They were all taken to bits at the start of Covid and in bits they remain to this day...

Yes mate - still in the Energy (Oil, Gas, Biofuel) industry as a Project Quality Manager - still brings in the dosh to pay for new toys! haha

I have one XR2 on the road and one XR3I Cabriolet which needs a little TLC. All good fun! I switch them out from storage with my main car - just depends on the weather etc.

Cheers,
N.

Good to hear from you Nick. I think your old red track car came up for sale a short while ago? I remember it being a particularly clean example.

Still here 17 years later (where does the time go 😅) still with the same car too, after going through Capris, escorts and a sierra then a pile of more practical cars like pickups and a few mercs (still have ML500 and GLE350 as daily’s) I couldn’t give up on the old popular

Married with a little one

Sad to see this forum drop off and wishing I’d bought a pile of fiesta bits 10years ago 😅

I lurk on here every now and then , i think i found this place about 14/15yrs ago when i decided i wanted to zetec the mk2 i had just bought

i broke that as i had a saph cossie that needed fixing! :wall: having sold it I then bought another mk2 to make it better than the last one as i missed my old one

I've still got that mk2 , sold my saph to buy a house , the mk2 had a ST170 fitted , then during covid a few mates and i had the daft idea to k swap it

so that's where it stands at the moment , k swapped and ready for some track action once i get some free time :cool!:
