Sorry to add more fuel to this arguement - but I thought the whole point of a dump valve was to release pressure when changing gear to keep the turbo spinning?

Being a N/A boy i'm probably missing the point here, but surely it's better to have the turbo up to speed for when you engage drive again??

Thing is mate there is lots of bollocks going round about dump valves, mostly started by the companies to get you to buy them. Top and bottom of it is, unless you have a seriously high performance engine with a very large turbocharger, then they are not a requirement.

However if you like the noise, then fit one, personally i do like a bit of dumpage but only when driven hard, so annyoning when all you can hear is the dump valve.

Fastdan, as you know I've got a d/v on mine and it works fine, tried it without at brunters and it made no difference,as in it didn't spool up any quicker. I guess you've just got to see what works best on your car. I like the noise :D It might be abit " old hat" on erst/frst or cossies but how many XR2s do you hear dumping when you walk down the street
At the end of the day its personal preference :D

there is a thoery behind gettin rid of waste boost, why else do most turbo cars are fitted wiv recirc d/v from the factorys, it does keep it spinnin throu the gears, but another way to get rid of the waste is by adjustin the throttle so it dont shut fully on over run(as some well known cossie tuners do)

The reason most cars some with re-circs as standard is to stop chatter, as production cars have to pass NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) tests and that chirping sound would defo not pass, as your everyday motorist would find this annoying.

I've never heard of anyone actually breaking a turbo, my mate used to run a T4 on his 3 door and he removed his D/V for a while, after about 5 mins death it jammed the turbo shaft completely, luckily he was able to dislodge it and it appeared undamaged, but after he re-fitted the D/V it didnt ever happen again?

I thought the reason tim came off at national day with his ERST was because he'd snapped the shaft on his turbo?

I personally like the sound of them, quite alot of GTTs run them and sound superb with them. not a huge fan of chatter, other than the fact it highlights the car is turbod.

now this is just a random thought but, im pretty sure that it may also help the engine life with a dump valve, as backing off quickly when on boost can cause problems, pretty sure its can be down to lean mixtures on overrun on certain cars.

I'm getting all jealous now.. i'm gonna get a couple of pigeons under the bonnet, and rig up a system that everytime i let off the gas, it will dispense some trill to them, so they coo with happiness! Get a microphone to make it louder, then fix some vents to keep em cool 8)

Sorted.

lol damn, my secret is out lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
aparntly the chatter-ability (quite creative with the english language aint i lol) is effected bu cooler, pipework lenght, and most importantly airfilter size.
as ive got a baby kn on mine, its loud- wana get a bigger airfilter, but need to sort other things out first ;)
