Couple of quick questions I'm hope you guys can help me with.
- Is the diesel engine mount stiffer than the standard CVH one? I don't want a vibra-tech one as might be too stiff as use the car on the road all the time.
- Also what alternator can I use that is smaller than either the XR2 or zetec ones?
Both these questions relate to the issue that I have with the alternator catching on the front of the car under hard acceleration. I already have the shortest alternator drive belt on possible.
Thanks
Mark

Shouldn't happen.
I'd guess your mounts are f*cked or the engine mount you have is incorrect.
Or..
The alternator bracket you are using is incorrect.

I'm running a 1998 1.8 Zetec engine ( S2 ) with a late ( 1988 ) Mk2 alternator bracket and the original XR2 alternator.
Using the none PAS Xr2i alternator belt. Considered the 'long' belt by most.
I've got plenty of room and don't get any contact between the alternator or the front cross member under any sort of acceleration.

Forgot to say Jason its on a quantum 2+2 and a blacktop. I'm using the standard XR2 CVH alternator bracket.
I know it shouldn't happen. I've does this conversion before on a different 2+2 with a silvertop. The 1st car has a very old engine mount and a zetec alternator and has no problems.
The only thing I can majorly see different to the previous car is that due to the difference in the sump fitment the alternator sits further forward.
I have had to space the engine mount away from the block due to the cam belt tensioner was catching on the bracket that the engine mount fits to. This has moved the alternator closer to the front of the car.
If I can work out how to get pic's up then I will do.

Not sure the diesel mount is the same. I filled mine with sikaflex and that helped

I don't know much about the 2+2 so can't help with that.

I've tried the filling the gaps in the mount but that doesn't seem to have worked. Might not have done the best job of it.
Will look for a smaller alternator in the salvage yard.
