Are the calipers in good condition?
No leaks anywhere?

My 1.1 on xr2 front brakes was good.
But locked on heavy breaking.

Jason.

If you pump the brake pedal - does the pedal get stiffer and the bite point higher? Or does it stay right on the floor?

I have fitted XR2 brakes too, with a mondeo mastercylinder. Sitting stationary with engine turned off pumping the pedal does make the pedal get stiffer...What would be the issue...Sorry to hijack but this wasn't responded to or answered :D

With the engine off suggests there is air in the lines.

With a Mondeo cylinder/servo, you need to make sure your pushrod and bracket to bulkhead angles are all ok - otherwise you will get weirdness in the feel.

Pop a post up and someone should reply!

Mine is literally just bolted on...I have seen over the last few days people adding a nut on the bottom studs to space it out adjusting the angle, so I may give that a bash at the weekend and rebleed them. The brakes do engage just at the bottom of the pedal travel which isnt ideal i must say!

You do need to re-angle the servo and shorten the pushrod - i think.

Someone on here will know for sure.

I had this exact problem when I got my mk2, I reconditioned the front brakes, new seals, pads, discs, braided lines the lot. Made no difference, so I redid all the rear, new everything, still no difference, 100% sure they were bled properly.
Then I was randomly checking my brake lights with a bar on the brake pedal while the whole car was up on stands and I noticed the rear wheels weren't locked, not even tight.
So I guessed it had to be the pressure reducing valves, so I made up some small new pipes to bypass the valves and get rid of them completely, bled them up and the pedal has been perfect ever since!
So I'd give that a go, some people say the rears will lock really easily without the valves but I've not had any problems but I've not done any full blown emergency stops but under normal heavy braking it's been fine, the car is stripped out as well so even less weight in the back!
