Alright guys been a while since I've posed on here as the xr2 has been well and truly on the back burner (Buying a house and grown up sh!t!)
Anyway thats out the way now and the work has started on the old girl again :D
Ive got a s2 rs tubo engine in and I'm looking at fitting an lsd into the original box. Its the standard xr2 box in a 89 car. Im in talks with a guy who has a s1 gear box and he has said that its easy enough to pull the diff out and it will fit right into my xr2 box with no problems at all?? is this correct or not?
He's been quite pushy for me to buy it at the minute so i dont know if he's having me on. Any help you could give would be Ideal.
Dont want to spend 150quid and find out its a waste.

Many thanks Dave

I remember when you could buy an entire s1 or s2 box for that. Not just the LSD.

I can't answer your question otherwise.

Jason.

Well its the complete box he has got but he said that it wont fit in an xr2 because its a different type of mount or something? Says the s1 didn't use a cradle to mount onto like the xr2 does?

You need to change the crown wheel on the diff.

As in, what ever diff your throwing away, take the crown wheel off that and fit it to the lsd diff so the gears match up.

Rubbish.
I had an S1 box in my xr2 until a few months ago.
I now have an s2 box in the same car.

He is referring to the escort.
You can't put an s2 box in an s1 car as the s2 box is missing mounting points. S1 in s2 escort works though.

Ideal for that Jason. Ive bought the internals of the box but not bothered with the casing (postage price was insane) he's told me that changing all the internals into my xr2 box is possible and is easy enough to do.

I had 5 speed 1.1 gearbox sent to me via Paisley freight a few years back. ( same weight as the xr2/s1/s2 box )
It was £35.
I thought that was very reasonable.

Should have blagged the weight of the box at 25kg...
I have sent so many for less than 30quid, even with legit weights.
