I'm confused at using a ST170 engine without the head and turbocharging
I'm not an expert and correct me for sure but isn't the ST170 a higher compression engine? So for turbo use you'd want to use different rods and pistons. The special part of the engine left would be the head and swapping the head to a standard one would just make it the same as any other 2.0ltr blacktop?
Whats the advantage?
The ST170 bottom end features sintered forged internals, so not as strong as aftermarket pistons and rods but much stronger than standard Zetec internals. It means the pistons and rods do not have to be changed when turbocharging, at least at lower levels of boost and with a limit of around 300bhp or so. Just bolt on a Black Top head with some uprated valve springs and you have a cheap turbo engine.
