As per title, is there a way of just locking it or not using it at all or do you have to swap heads/new cam?

i bet people have using the vvt delete kit i think you use a normal zetec pulley and lock cams at 110 degrees or whatever is best for you but i think most just swop to blacktop head and go from there

you coudl use vvt with turbo and just map it in the equation but iv heard vvt pulleys don't like boost.........

I'm confused at using a ST170 engine without the head and turbocharging :?

I'm not an expert and correct me for sure but isn't the ST170 a higher compression engine? So for turbo use you'd want to use different rods and pistons. The special part of the engine left would be the head and swapping the head to a standard one would just make it the same as any other 2.0ltr blacktop?

Whats the advantage?

Bottom end is apprently stronger, so you use blacktop head to do away with VVT, use the ST170 valve springs, fit a 1.8mm head gasket and away you go!

Im using a puma VVT engine with a turbo conversion and when the VVT was working compared with it working the difference is massive.

Higher spec ECUs can control VVT - like a Vipec, Autronic.

The ST170 bottom end features sintered forged internals, so not as strong as aftermarket pistons and rods but much stronger than standard Zetec internals. It means the pistons and rods do not have to be changed when turbocharging, at least at lower levels of boost and with a limit of around 300bhp or so. Just bolt on a Black Top head with some uprated valve springs and you have a cheap turbo engine.
