Right guys I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice? The last couple of days my car has started burning oil once warm and it won't boost over 3-4 psi. It usualy boosts 10-12. As soon as it gets to about 4 psi it's like the engine just stops. If I'm in 4th and put my foot down it gets to about 4 psi and just pops and bangs out of the exhaust... I checked the turbo and there is little play forwards and backwards and abit up and Down, does this mean the turbo's f*****d? Or has anyone else had this problem from something else

Check for a boost leak, worn/broken actuator, fuel filter blocked and check plugs are not worn and getting blown out.

Is it MFi or EFi? Check also either or - Fuel pressure, coil pack, dizzy arm/cap etc.

It's efi mate and it's had new coil pack plugs and leads... There's no air leaks. It's like the engine completely cuts when I get the car to rev so high or boost to around 4 psi

check your actuator and also for collapsing boost hoses.

Also check Fuel Filter, and the fuel system - injectors and fuel pressure, is the pump working ok and providing enough fuel pressure etc etc.

No it all sounds fine ticks over perfect and revs up perfect until boost hits about 4 psi then it cuts back like the engine cuts out. I was thinking could the map sensor be no good and it stops sending the fuel in when I can't read over 4 psi or something like that

Try it with the chip out if it has 1, disconnect the battery for a bit before you try it.

For oil burning I'd be doing a compression test. If your rings are shot the other 8 psi could be blowing past them.

With that ruled out if say it then sounds like its the ECU boost cutting. I'd be checking MAP sensor, ACT sensor or associated wiring before rushing out buying stuff

to be quite honnest mate im not 100% if it is oil im thinking now thats if unburnt fuel its like the spark stops and cuts the engine out and goes back to normal once the boosts gone back down. it seems like the plugs or coilpack are breaking down but theyre new so i cant see it being that

Do a compression test. But do it once the car is up to temp.

Assumption is the mother of all f*ck ups :wall:

Has it ever run OK since the new coilpack and plugs?

could be any number of things, i had one problem where it would build boost and then cough up and stall the turbo, turned out to be the hose entering the turbo was weak and sucked the pipe together stopping air flow till the turbo dropped rpm.

Sounds like its not getting enough fuel or not enough air. although it is difficult to diagnose problems from a keyboard as cant hear or feel the problem. Like sean said pull the inlet pipe off and have a quick drive, i dont recommend that as a long term solution just to see if its the fault. Check all your wiring. Wiring is the bain of my life and cause most problems.

When mine wasnt getting enough fuel it would splutter then bang and put flames out the exhaust.

You said it wont boost once warm. Does it boost fine cold?

The car doesn't rev past like 2000 revs when cold. When it's warm it will go if I very slowly put my foot down and build up the revs gradually. Sometime it works fine and will fly like the wind but that seems to be when I have bein on a long journey like up the motorway...
