Hi Guys

Having headaches fitting my T2 Turbo in my mk1.

In order for everything to fit without modifying the offside tie bar which sits in the way of even a tiny denso alternator i want to relocate the alternator to the back of the block where there is tons of room and still a clear line for the pully.

I could possibly modify the tiebar location to lower it, but still its a cramped place with the t2 and water pipes in this area. plus i want to turn the housing on the t2 so that the actuator in its current position clears the crossmember, other wise i wil have to notch the cross member or modify the actuator position but these are both bodges i want to avoid.

Turning the housing will mean its almost impossible to fit any sort of alternator in this area.

Which ever way I look at it relocating the alternator seems like a no brainer.

is there anything obvious I havent thought about other than making a new bracket to locate on existing holes and extending some wiring?

Cheers

I think it'll be driven backwards so you might need an idler pulley setup depending in the belt route and I don't think there are any suitable mounting points on the back of the block for such a setup, might be wrong though

Rwd setups use the holes used for the fwd engine mount.
They also have the advantage of not having that mount in the way and the strut tower.
I expect it's possible.
But you will need to make a custom alt/engine mount and maybe fit a pulley to keep the belt out of the way of the mount.

Rotation direction will be fine if you keep it triangular.

Or, look at a long bar extension for the alt and fit it nearer the gearbox.

Jason.
