My opinion - Get a genuine Tial from a reputable eBay US store and get in imported.

Check the duty prices before committing to buy from the States though.

Import duty on goods over £135.
VAT on goods over £15.
Then Royal Mail's £8 fee on top of that!

Jason.

I know Dean with the blue Mk2 Zetec turbo was using a cheap eBay wastegate, and then it failed, jammed open, and killed the engine.

I'd spend money wisely when it comes to things that have the capacity to kill your engine when they fail.

I have a Tial 38mm with 14psi spring.

Bear in mind that the way in which my AVC-R works is that it will bleed off to get higher boost - hence you get a spring that is the lowest PSI you would want to run, and let the boost controller adjust the boost higher independently.

So make sure you get a spring to suit your management/boost controller setup.

yup, deans valve stuck closed, therefore bled no gas away from the turbo.
should have had ecu setup for boost clipping though, wouldn't have wrecked anything then.
i did also use a cheap one without issue, but i would buy a turbosmart one or a tial if i had have kept it much longer.
i had a base spring of 14psi, then bled off to reach 2BAR with the gizzmo boost controller.

If a wastegate jams it can destroy your engine in seconds. I've had 2 genuine garrett actuators jam, one on a cossie and one on an R5 GTT, engine in the R5 blew but luckily I noticed something was up on the cossie before it did any damage.

You don't have to buy a really expensive one, just make sure your buying something that has been tried and tested by other people.

If you engine cost alot of money your gonna be pissed off if it blows up for the sake of a wastegate.

I would be carefull buying that as there are ALOT of fake turbosmart stuff. Some of them are obviously fake but some are very good copies that come in correct packaging etc and will be very hard to tell unless you have a genuine one to compare.

Would only buy from an authorised dealer IMO.

http://www.turbodynamics.co.uk/shop/tur ... -2978.html

Or if it's cheaper you can buy from turbosmart directly and have it shipped over and pay the tax on it.

Just to show the price difference on a fake one

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shi ... 33893.html

Alot of people have probably bought these and not even realised they were fake and paid close to full price.

lol. Ask yourself how much your engine owes you - then ask the same question again!

Im sure there is a rule on how much you should boost over each spring....I.e if your using a 10psi spring you should go over 20psi using a controller. That is not correct info just an example of pressures.....

Could be wrong but when I looked into it before buying my tial one I found info on it...

The rule of thumb is to use the spring half of the desire max boost. So 14psi spring is good up to 28psi +/- 2psi. Also bear in mind what I said about the lowest psi, i.e.: you won't be able to bleed or set the boost low in early gears if you have a hard spring in there.

This is why I got a 14psi spring - it'd be bang in the ballpark for most of us on here up to about 30psi.

Fullbore - what's happening with your car?

Erm...its still sitting there....just lol

Ive just finished building a double garage. Just need to run electrics and board out the inside. Then I will get stuck into my car finally. Gathered a few bits. Ive got two weeks booked off in april so hopefully I will have a running car ready for mot by the end of the two weeks. I suppose I should do an update on here...

Cant remember what spring I have In my wastegate. I want a real small pressure one to run the car in...

this is true to a degree, overboost protection will help though, the reason I didn't worry about using a cheap one.
however I would have changed for a better unit, water cooled tial would have been bought.
