I thought i would put this post up as everyone i sell one of these too seem's to have problems fitting it  .

Anyway as you can see in this pic there is not a great deal to the esc system although the escort version is a little more complex :).
Image
We start of with this 4 pin plug.
Image
There are two ways of doing this either get other side of plug from donor car or cut off as shown in the pic.
Image

after you have cut off plug it leaves you four wires we are only interested in three as the other is for oil pressure and we already have that so not needed :D.
Image

The three wire's we use are black, switched 12v+/brown, ground/and green and red which is rev counter feed. I use the coil's wire for rev counter feed the coil feed for switched 12v+ then find suitable ground
once you have your three wires connected it is time to fit to car the plugs are as follows the round single plug with black wire was for fuel shut off on carb. This can be uesd for this if runnig dmtr or similar with fuel cut off valve or just taped up into loom and not used if using bike carbs or 40's/45's.
Next up is water temp this is a black plug with two wires coming out this can be plugged straight into the zetec sensor.
Image
After this comes coil plug again plugging straight in to zetec coil :D.
Image
After this the last plug to do is the cps plug again plugging into front of engine on original sensor
will add this pic later as the missus is out in car
Please note if you have stereo and find interferance from coil on your radio you will have to solder plug onto coil feed to plug the ford suppresor located on side of coil here :) .
Image
Once all plugs are connected the last thing to do is connect map sensor hose to esc unit if you fit where coil used to go you can use a bit of original hose to connect it :) map sensor connection shown in left hand corner of esc unit
Image
Well there you go it is now time to turn the key and listen to your car fire into life or not .
EDIT IF YOU HAVE THE 1.3 ESC MODEL IT WILL HAVE AIR CHARGE TEMP SENDER ALSO I WILL DO A FOLLOW UP FOR THIS IN THE WEEK :)

Nice one Steve. I'm fed up of telling people how to wire these up too, so hopefully this will save us both some time!

I'm assuming the EDIS in my carb'd HCS is simpler as I have the water temp disconnnected and it makes no odds.

the only thing is your rev counter will read half so will have to add diodes.

did not have that problem on mine although i am pretty sure that is only the case if using edis not esc as the wire is the idm output which is both sides of coil together.

oh right cos my mate is running a 2 ltr on bike carbs and he is using an esc module and it only went to 3k on the rev counter so he has got round it by adding diodes i am no expert on this subject

im sure someone has put up a wiring diagram for the rev counter diodes.

maybe it depends on the esc module or are they all the same :?:

I have found the later 16v engines with EDIS the idm works fine but on the earlier 8v engines it doesn't seem to work? not sure if anyone else has found that?
Out of interest how much does one of those ESC setups go for? I've fitted loads with EDIS to megasquirt or megajolt but not had one those before as eveyone wants to program the ignition to suit. However a guy a work needs one as all he wants is dizzyless on his old pinto'd sunshine bus so one of those will do nicely :D

Tacho works with ESC as long as the car already had a tacho and the green wire is present in the loom. Hook that up to the rev counter and all should be well.

If you don't have the wire and try to tag the rev counter off the coil like in the conventional single coil setup it will read half speed. In that case you need to do the diode trick.
