hello people, im new.

I happen to be a good mate with the illimuniator and i blame my obsession with fiestas totaly on him. but anyway my car...

I got a Fiesta Fly as well. however, mine is a MkII fly. 'they never made one' i hear you cry. yes they did, thats exactly how many they made. 1.
And i got it! :D :D :D :D :D

This car IS a fly, not some cowboy job made by a man in his shed. it was built by F.English, and came with a 'Fly' badge on it (i have photos and documents that prove this) i am the third owner since it was new, and it has be stored in a garage for the last 10 years and been looked after and restored as a project, only taken out once a year to get an MOT. the car has been re-sprayd from it original colour, which was blue (can still been seen under bonnet). it has no rust on it at all and is really really mint.
when i say that only one was ever made, i really mean only one is known about anyhere, however i belive it to be one of a kind as the company who built it denied doing it at first, then they said, 'actualy, we did build one'

the engine is the original 1.1 that was fitted in the ford factory, it runs like new, i have never seen such a well looked after engine. i plan to keep it that way!

it has been fitted with a MKII XR interior and body kit, both of which are Mint.

plans for it....
i am really having trouble deciding what i want to do with this car. up grade the engine or would that be rude on a car so rare as this?

commets, suggestions and other virbial abuse below please.....

You'll need to host your image somewhere else, as places like Geocities and Tripod don't allow remote linking of images.

Try Photobucket.com. They are pretty good and a few members here use it.

How beautiful is that!!!!!!!

You're a lucky man!!

I'm not any Fiesta specialist but in the time that i've been in boards like this i've never heard of a authentic MK2 Fly conversion.....

If i were the owner i'll probably made two things:

-Put the car original, gettin rid of 2i wheels,XR2 kit.....to have a total standard minter than mint-exclusive MK2 fly.

-Once the car is modded go for a nice engine and modify the actual look of the car!

In any case mate, please,KEEP apart the car form Illuminator's hands,he really like cowboy'ing cars!!!!! :D :D

OH!and welcome to the board BTW! 8)

Here you go:

Before you say it, YES it's "That car off Ebay"... Matt's just not had a chance to take some new pics yet as he's been working night an day to pay for the car!!

He's no stranger to Fiestas BTW - Some of you may know of or remember his old car:

Spending time and money sorting the bodywork wasn't enough, and he ran out of money when it came to fixing the engine, so with a combination of knackered piston rings, a dodgy carb and lets face it - a rather violent incident after towing it home one day this car was never to be. Shame.

Looks to be in very good condition.
Just needs a passenger door tray tidy.

Where the 'only one Mk2 fly' is concerned, I vaguely remember someone mentioning that one had been done in Mk2 guise.. Can't remember if it was only the one though..

Jason.

Welcome to the board mate.
I have to say that usually I'm not a huge fan of red ones, but something about this one really works, well nice car.

thanks for you comments guys. cant have door pockets or else the doors will not shut cos there is a big massive lump of steel in the way.

dont you worry, chris will NOT be doing any of his famous cowboying on this one, cos i will beat him with a large stick!

the pics i posted do work sometimes, if you refresh it enough. still rubbish tho.

If you look in the picture, it looks like the parts of the doorcards you are reffering to have been removed to make room for the strengthening beams that they fit...?

It couldn't surprise me one bit if this was the only one still in existance, however they probably made a few prototypes in the beginning.
Maybe they ditched the idea thinking it wouldn't sell or fearing competition from the escort cabbys.

I love the way the roof folds away on these conversions- very nice.

interesting car!
altho i'm not a fan of the alloys (those XR2i allys look cack on mk2's!)
and i think you should lose the bodykit...and go for the original look!
imo!
otherwise...sweet!

personally i dont like the clear indicators, see if you can get some with grey backings or possibly put orange ones back on! with white backings they stand out too much IMO!!!!

i agree, those ones look abit cr@p, but i cannot have the big orange ones back as they look even worse. what do u mean by the other type, never hurd of them before?

also, while im here.....

i have thought about what i want to do with the interiour.
i was thinking maybe re-covering the seats in black with red pipeing to match the car and roof. i was thinking maybe vynal or leather but im not sure if eather of these would work, maybe just black cloth of some type.
what do you rekon?

personally i think those fly convertables are horrible.but its what you like that counts and theres no denying its spanking condition.shame it hadnt been left the original colour or at least the engine bay done as well.

they look good with the roof down its just when its up it looks like a bin bag stretched over the roof.shame they couldnt have made a better job of it.

at least your cars unique tho and rot free.

Bri.

Keep the interior as it is and go for the MKII XR2 look... Which as pretty much already been done.

You know it looks good now, you won't have to risk spoiling anything and you won't have to spend money!!

Instead get a bigger engine and sort out the handling.
