 Post subject: Fuel issue help needed

I have drained my tank refilled with fresh petrol changed the fuel pump will start with fuel directly put in carb but not without any ideas

Hoses on wrong way round on pump ??? Float valve stuck shut easy to check try blowing up hose if carb empty should hear air rushing in carb

Hi thanks for the reply can hear air when blowing up hose fuel pump I can suck fuel up through it

Run a jerry can from in the bay to the carb (you can dump both the return - if fitted - and the feed into the same jerry can) to see whether you have a blocked line under the car or a knackered fuel pump.

Will try but only just put a new fuel pump on and I can suck petrol from the tank through it with my mouth

Try it to rule out blockages - can you see any flattened pipes at all underneath?

Is the cam running the fuel pump ok? Push rod ok?

Thanks for the help I have just got it running for the first time in 4 years when I changed the fuel pump I didn't put the black spacer back on glad it was something simple fired up first go

Sounds like you've been really lucky then!

Usually without the spacer on either the pump won't fit.
The pump diaphragm gets mashed to bits.
The rod gets mashed to bits or the cam lobe gets mashed to bits.
