Have just refitted the engine (1987 XR2) after some major surgery to the bodywork. Engine had a service while out (oil/filter/sump gasket/cam belt/crank oil seal) all of which I think went to plan.
The engine is now idling at higher revs than usual (would guess at plus of 2000 as no clocks in). Im pretty sure everything has gone back as it came out and the carb hasnt been touched. The throttle & manual choke are all as they should be. Have double checked everything but not found what is causing it.
Any ideas anyone?

Adjust the carb idle screw and go from there.

Could be an air leak at the carb / manifold / associated pipes.

Jason.

Tried the idle screw but didnt seem to make a difference.
Am thinking someting on the pipes but not to clued up on how all that bit works.
Ill have another look tomorrow.

Try it with the throttle cable disconnected to see if you can get it idling right like that.

If so then you might have a broken strand in the throttle cable stopping it moving fully. Or else it's gone out of adjustment somehow.

Yeh have tried that and just the same. The throttle assembly all apears correct.

In that case check around for missing pipes etc.
Usual suspects are those that make a vacuum for the airbox heater flap. The oil vapor catch trap and the ones on the back of the carb.
Otherwise. Spray with carb cleaner and see if the revs increase.

Think i might have sussed it. Had a quick look today and the second choke appeared to be open slightly. Had a quick play and it seemed to sort itself out and revs seem better now.
Thanks for the assistance.
