Hello

I'm wanting to build a n/a zvh engine is a lean burn head better to use than a hemi head?

I always thought it was the opposite way around.
Especially for a Zetec.

However. It really depends on your definition of 'Better'.

As I want to make a n/a zvh not turbo one I know I have to get the head skimmed to raise the compression but if I used a lean burn head do I still need to get the head skimmed?

I know zetec is a good engine to put straight I but I want to keep the cvh look I have a reconditioned hemi head with new valves but needs porting if I use this head a new piper 270 cam twin40 dcnf,s , Ashley exhaust rs1600 cam cover that with a zetec bottom end should go quite well

I,m still not sure which to use a 1.8 or 2.0 I don't know the power difference between them

If you are going zetec turbo, I wouldn't bother with the twin 40's. They will cause nothing but trouble.
Especially if they are not turbo specific carbs, which are rare and difficult to get hold of.
I might have ONE dellorto 'N' carb which is turbo specific.
Pretty much every one who self builds a carb turbo setup inevitably moves over to injection. It's just the amount of time, effort and money that differ from person to person.

As for the head?
I honestly don't know where turbo is concerned.
I'd advise speaking to an engine builder.

I did think about building a zvh myself.
I had a ford motorsport cover i wanted yo keep too!
But in the end, I bit the bullet and fitted the full zetec engine. I just fitted a dmtr 34 carburettor instead of the injection gubbins which i didn't have the loom or transponder for anyway.

if you go 2.0 and lean burn head it will only need to be skimmed 1mm to get a 10.1 compression

If i was you don't use the lean burn as its not the best flowing head, full semi and skim it 1.8mm but you might have to look into pocketed pistons and do dummy build to see clearances

Thanks for information I have both heads at the moment but the hemi has been refurbished and skimmed all ready but I don know how much by where my lean burn head is still on the engine and hasn't been messed with ,if the head has already been skimmed as I don't know how much if I take another 1.8 mm off of it it could be to much Make the compression to high

Hi townie, Google the formula for compression ratio and work out how much to remove. Use parafin or the like and measure the cylinder head capacity. Use 10:1 for the target as mentioned above. Don't forget to factor in your head gasket thickness. From this you can determine how much to get the head skimmed.
Mine was 1.5mm. My brothers 1.8mm. I am using the lean burn head, Kent 22 cam and a 1.8ltr block.
Hope this helps you.
Dan

hi dan thanks for the info , how quick is your set up? I was thinking along the same lines of what you have got and run it on twin 40 dcnf at the moment I have a cvh with kent 22 cam and lean burn head and dcnf's but haven't got it running yet as its in my project car , that's why im asking about the zvh build to replace whats in my project to give it more power
