Hi all,

Does anyone know if the front vented discs, calipers and caliper brackets will fit a solid disk mk2 Fiesta hub please?

Although my Fezza just passed the MOT with no brake queries, I still feel it could pull up a bit quicker than it does, I've talked about this problem before and I think we come to the conclusion that I was comparing 30 year old brakes to modern ABS brakes but I was wondering if going over to vented fronts would help? Although I don't race it around (well you can't really in a 1.1 auto) it's still nice to know that the car would stop better if some idiot decides to pull out in front of you (like they seem to do a lot of nowadays).

I'm currently running 14" alloy wheels but I'd like them to be able to fit under the original 13" Ghia steel wheels if I ever decided to sell the car and take the alloys off, I was in my local scrap yard and they have a Ford Puma and a few later Fiesta's (mk5 I think) which I could take the required parts off, I'd buy knew disks and pads and refurb the calipers.

Your thoughts and advice please gents.

Many thanks.

Pete

Mk4 fiesta brakes calipers fit with xr2 carriers, and as the Mk4 fiesta and puma share a platform, then probably. They do need XR2 carriers though.

The problem is trying to find XR2 carriers and ones that don't cost a fortune, that's why I was hoping the Puma carriers would fit.

Thanks for your reply.

Pete

Only xr2 carriers allow fitment of the larger calipers and in turn vented discs.

I fitted xr2 discs and calipers to my 1.1.
Leaving the remainder of the brakes 1.1.
It did stop better but was more prone to grab and lock on inder heavy braking than my xr2 does.

Both vehicles ran ebc and greenstuff.

I still have xr2 calipers and carriers for sale.

Jason.

So would I be better off fitting a bigger Mondeo servo (like if been reading) to increase brake pressure, I replaced the disks and pads a few months ago, which didn't really help much, I also have some braided front hoses which I've also read can help.

Cheers

Pete

I intend on fitting a larger servo to my 1.1.
Will it make a difference?
I don't know.

I recon a lot of the better braking that people get when fitting a mondeo servo and mc is due to the original items being in poor condition in the first place.

I certainly found that one of the 1.1 caliper hard lines was blocked when I changed the calipers over.

A good service is probably all that is needed in most cases. Replacing the servo on my wifes 1.1 certainly sorted out brake issues we had with that.

Jason.

A mondeo servo will give you the more modern car feel yes however you will loose more pedal feel. Yes you will be able to jump on the brakes and lock them up a bit quicker granted but that doesn't actually improve your braking itself
