Can anyone confirm which way the rear damper top mounting rubbers are supposed to go, because I'm not sure that how they came off the car is how they should be fitted and I can't find anything that gives a definitive answer.

Do the smaller diameter bits go up, down, towards the body, one up, one down?

What's right - one up, one down so both are towards the body?

The smaller diameter bits go towards the metal so bottom one up top one down.

Yes.
They sort of "fit" together.
If you put them in wrong, they obviously squash and just look wrong.

If it looks wrong. It probably is.

That's not how they came out, so they were in wrong.

Thanks for the confirmation guys.

Yeah.
Seen a few done where the mechanic just throws them on. Puts the washer on and whizzes it up with an air gun.

"Job done."

This came with a Jamex suspension kit I purchased. It came with new rubber buffers and this diagram showing how to fit them.
