You probably have an early mk1 floor pan with raised mounts on the floor so need prefacelift runners.

Yes it's 1980 with raised seat mounts don't really want to remove the rear seat mounts so I can fit mk2 seat runners but I might have to

Any ideas why they changed the design?
Only thing I can think of is crash resistance or crumple zoning. :eh:

When I rolled my white XR2, one of the MANY damaged parts was the drivers seat runners.
The rear sections both squashed. The parts that meet the floor pan.
All still attached to the car and the floor pan appeared to be OK. To the point of no rips or tears etc.

Passenger side was fine. But no one was sat in that seat.

Jason.

Jason.

Around the same time as the change to bigger stronger bumpers so could well be the case, plus 4 less pressings to make and weld to the floorpan. The bolts used to hold the early seat runners in really were light duty possibly m6 and could well have failed in a crash and the seats would fold back flat in a rear smash as the tilt mechanism would break too

I think the seat bolts on the mk2 are m8. But that's from memory and I don't think I ever tested them for size.

M6 seems a bit slim to me for something as important as seat bolts. You've seen the size of the seat belt mount bolts.

The pressings makes sense though!
One less thing to make.
The later mk2's especially the xr2.. lost so much over the early ones in spec alone!

Rear seat pockets, glove box light, boot popper, centre console with a draw.....

Yes the seat bolts went to m8 for later mk1's same as mk2 , its been a while since I looked at the early mk1 seat bolts but they definitely seemed smaller and looked weedy .
Don't forget alloys were even an option on the mk2 , standard on Mk1's (and the mk1 pots seemed far better quality too with a sharper casting on the face) all to keep the costs down as inflation was huge back then
