Just wondering.....

I know a few people have rebuilt their cars with bolt on front wings.
But has anyone done a bolt on front panel too?

I'm not sure there would be a huge advantage to it.
I was just wondering if anyone had done it?

Jason.

Bomber made the top of the slam panel removable on his mk1 amongst others. You could probably engineer something but the front end would need some reinforcement, modern cars that don't have a front panel to brace between the wings have quite beefy bolt on crash bar that fits behind the bumper and has some fairly heavy duty mounting points., certainly a lot heavier than a standard fiesta front panel.

You could go the whole way and space frame the front end, and fit a complete carbon flip front. Would need some sort of IVA though.

I've always liked the idea of a space framed front end.
Carbon fibre front end is going to be the thick end of £2k.
Would be awesome! But expensive. :(

I'd forgotten about removable top cross panels.
It's been done on the mk2 too.
One on here who's name eludes me. White mk2. Was also on the front cover of Performance Ford I think.
Useful for radiator and intercooler clearances. Not sure how useful for anything else that might be.

I was thinking for cleaning reasons.

Cleaning, what is this detailing world! If you'd said better access for rust repair then that might have been plausible but actually washing the engine bay? :D

I intend on bolting the wings onto the festival.. If I ever start it!!.....

Two reasons.
1. And the main reason.. Is to periodically remove them for cleaning.
2. Easy removal / refiit in case of damage.

Detailing?!? Me?
Lol. Yah. Right..

The wings isn't a problem as there is plenty of material to attached the wings to. but there isn't much to attached the front panel too that is easy to access to bolt in and out.

Yeah. That was my first thought.
Just wondered if anyone had done it.

Having never taken of my bolt on wings in the 5 years since resto I will be welding the next set on as then you get them painted with the shell which is far less hassle :cool!: Bolt on front panel for a race car maybe but for a road car can't see the point and it's going to be difficult to hide the bolts .Be the first Jason ! :cool!:

I was thinking somewhere around the bumper mount area, indicator area to inner wing with a captive nut in the front panel and clip in along the lower edge.
But really I don't know how useful it might be realistically.

If I ever went turbo then maybe. But otherwise not sure.
Definitely I'll do outer wings bolt on though.

Jason.
