Hi all and Jason

After searching the interweb thing for ages for carbs to fit my 1.1 auto and basically now being ignored by the guy on Farcebook with the Weber TLM, I've decided that may be the route I should go down is to buy a brand spank me new Weber IBF that I've found on the Webcon site, now I could buy the used one that is about £100 cheaper on Evilbay at the moment but I think all the little bits that come with the Weber kit will be missing, so is it worth me biting the bullet and ordering a new one and will it solve my 250ish miles to a tank fuel crisis?

Your thoughts please gentlemen.

Cheers

Pete

How much is it gonna cost you total? Bear in mind that people practically give away running 1.1 engines all the time. If youre going standard concourse then yes, if youre modifying the car then I wouldn't spend a great deal on it.

It's not going to be standard concourse as I've already done a few things to the car that will upset the purists (but it can be reversed if the next owner wants it back to standard), I don't really want to start changing engines as I'm not overly worried about mega speed and to be honest the car's nippy enough but if a 11/1300 Valencia engine with 5 speed box popped up then I might be tempted but I don't have the facilities to change it over and the hassle of trying to rig up a gear linkage etc but the fuel economy of the 5 speed setup would be nice but I'll just stick with what I've got and muck about with the carb to see if I can get a few more miles to the gallon out of it.

You can use a 'none kit' version of the IBF with 'relative' ease.
You need to do a little work to get it to fit.

You need..
A longer m8 bolt, I can find the size for you.
screw in 100 Weber jet.
plastic 8mm Y connector ? ( I need to check.... Might be 6mm.)
Inline plastic fuel filter or a 6mm to 8mm adaptor.
A short length of 6mm fuel hose.
Bullet connector.
Spade receptical connector.
Length of wire.
A metal file.

Gaskets for the carb to inlet.

It's an easy install.
I managed it!

I only bought the kit version I bought as it was £40 on eBay!!
Brand new too!

I'll do a full write up if you want it.

Jason.

If you can Jason that would be most helpful, I'm going to have to see how the auto's throttle linkage bracket on the carb will fit as well, would you say that if a secondhand 32 IBF was found that may be was for a 1.3 CVH then there wouldn't be much difference between that and one for a 1.1? (apart from the jets).

I'm sure I can get the bits you've mentioned above, I would invest in a new Weber rebuild gasket kit (and jets) and give it a good clean before fitting, I suppose I'm a little reluctant to do a secondhand conversion because of all the lash ups I've done in the past with my Imps but I suppose if the carbs been made for the mod already and it's been done numerous times then I can't see many problems.

Thanks for everyone's advice and help.

Pete

Lol.
Plenty!

The advantage I have here is I've done this conversion both ways.
Both from the kit and by just using an IBF bare carb.

The 1.3 carb might be OK as it is.
I have a 1.3 escort ( ohv ) on the missus Ghia.
I ran this carb on the festival without issue too.
But I don't know if the 1.3 cvh jets differ to the 1.3 ohv jets.

You mentioned 250 miles a tank.
That's about what our cars do. :/

May be I'm spoilt getting nearly 600 miles out of my C2 diesel, I wonder if anyone's ever put a 1.4 TDCi engine into a mk2, now that would be different, retro looks with excellent fuel economy and pretty nippy as well.
