Took the rusty old rear springs off at weekend and compared them to the new ones. Old ones are about 15 - 20 mm shorter, which could be due to age and sagging, but the new ones have an extra coil. The new ones are from a spring specialist, while the old ones are anyone's guess. Might be genuine Ford or could be motor factor jobbies. Look like original ends rather than cut springs though.

So, anyone know how many coils the standard rear springs have?

Check to see if the wire dia is the same? if its smaller they have probably made the same rate spring but used a small wire dia.
