Does anybody know if a mk3 fiesta tank will fit in a mk2 or are they totally different? Did I read somewhere that there were / are injection tanks for mk2's around?

Cheers
Simon

Mk3 tanks dont fit, they are a different shape entirely (more rectangular than the squarer mk2 tank). You can still buy injection tanks, the Mk2 was offered as an injection model in europe and the aftermarket tanks for these cars are what you need (available from most uk body panel companies).

What he said.
:)

I believe that the injection mk2 tanks are 'late' tanks.
So if you have a pre '87 car you may need a fuel filler pipe and impossibly a fuel level float from a later car too.

Actually. Confusingly... To add to that.
Early pre '87 cars had a 34 litre tank.
The later cars had a 40 litre tank.
The exception Bering the xr2 that always had a 40litre tank.

I'm talking mk2 here.
I don't know about the mk1.

All mk1's had a 34L tank with side mounted sender :cool!:

Cheers guys. My car is B reg '84, so my current filler neck won't fit and I'll also need the float and sender?

I'm thinking of using one to run my rs2000 engine if the pump is up to it? If not are the pumps interchangeable ie could I fit a zetec or rs2000 pump in the tank?

What I'm trying to avoid is having a separate pump and swirl pot.

Cheers Simon

Probably the same tank on the early Mk2's then.

There is nothing stopping you cutting open the tank and fitting an internal swirl pot and pump inside your existing tank.
In all honesty, that is the route I'd take.
Certainly less hassle than messing around trying to find a later filler and float.

Jason.

That's a good idea Jason I hadn't thought of that. :D

Will have to build up my courage though as a bloke at work turned a tank inside out when he was soldering it back together. It had been properly drained and aired as well it turned out someone tried to cure a leak by filling the tank with sealer and the fuel had soaked into it. The vapour ignited and BOOM up it went!

Plenty of "old school" repairers will repair old tanks..
.. As they aren't available for some cars.

So it'll be possible to sort it out.
Get a pro to sort it out.. If it blows up, it's not on you.

Jason.

If you are going to weld your tank, attatch it to a running diesel car exhaust, the fumes are heavier than the petrol fumes and force the petrol fumes out and the diesel fumes won't ignite as easily, weld it slowly and in little sections allowing it to cool in between, i have welded several tanks this way and still have all my own skin and face lol

Fiesta 1,4i (with catalyst) were available from '86 or '87 on.

XR2 and Diesel Models all had the 40 litre tank, from August '86 on all MK2 Fiestas should have the 40 litre tank with sender on top on board. The sender unit also fits the injection tank, just close feed and return pipe for the carb.
