I thought I had bought a pair of mk1 xr2 shafts and a pair of mk2 xr2 shafts but after taking the cv's off noticed both short shafts are the same length and design. could anybody help me by telling me the length of either the mk1 or mk2 short shaft with or without cv's please? It was last year I bought them but I'm hoping the guy I got the mk2 shafts off gave me a mk1 short by mistake as he had a few

Also are mk1/mk2 hubs identical? Because I have a variety of hubs and knuckles and I'm trying to work out what they're off but all I know so far is that the two hubs I tried fit straight onto the end of the mk2 xr2 long shaft, basically looking for as much info on shafts/hubs/knuckles and cv's as possible haha

It was only the XR2 long shaft that was different.

The short shaft was the same. I think 1.1 hub have different no. of splines but the rest are all the same.

I was under the impression that the hub knuckles ( the bit everything connects to ) from mk1 and mk2's were all the same.
The dust shield differs from mk2 xr2 and all other mk2's due to the larger CV.

I was also under the impression that the hub part ( bit that the wheel bolts to ) differs between very early mk1 and later mk1 where the spline count differs.

I know there are two designs of mk2 hub.
One is square, the other round. But I don't know if there are any other differences.

Jason.

Jason I think you are right :cool!:

I actually measured a mk1 xr2 and mk2 xr2 short shaft including cv's this week .

Mk1 xr2 was 46.5cm without the stub that goes in the gearbox as its still keeping oil in the box !, that's from the very end of the threaded bit the hub nut screws onto till the centre of the shaft inside the gearbox side of the cv giving 57cm total length .However the mk1 cv can move in a lot to shorten the total length and as the gearbox stubshaft wasn't fitted I haven't an accurate measurement yet.

Mk2xr2 with box cv's fitted (that's what it was sold to me as) total length end to end was 58cm which is hardly any different to mk1 , I always thought there was an inch difference but the mk2 xr2 cv cannot be made much if any shorter as the cv's won't compress in like a mk1. :?

If I can find it, I have a mk2 xr2 short shaft somewhere.
But I think it's trapped in a hub knuckle so even if I find it, measuring it with any amount of accuracy would be difficult.
