My bumpers on my mk2 85 xr2 are showing there age.

Have used forever black dye for this show season which is ok.

Over winter I wanna paint them.

What have you used and what is the best way of doing it and a ruff cost of materials.

Thanks

I personally would not paint them.
Paint peels off. Eventually.

I have used linseed oil on the missus Ghia bumpers and body rub strips with good effect.
It does need doing regularly though. I.E. once a month.
But after the first one or two applications, it goes on easier as it doesn't soak in as quick.

Others have mentioned other oils like peanut oil.
I've not used peanut oil myself. Simply because we didn't have any at the time.
It is also a lot more expensive as it's usually food grade.

The xr2 kit just needs a light rub down to get rid of any orange peel effect first for best effect.
Price?
Could probably spend about £5 on sanding paper/ wet and dry and a bottle of linseed oil at somewhere like Wilkinson's.

An old rag to apply the oil.
Just be advised that linseed oil on a rag "can" self ignite if left to sit. So burn or soak in water any used rags before putting them in the bin. Just in case.

Jason.

a heat gun brings back the colour, you just have to make sure you dont warp them

That just brings the natural oils in the plastic to the surface. That's why they look like new.
With prolonged use, it will make the plastic brittle as the oils eventually evaporate.. As they do over time anyway..

Use an oil additive like linseed or peanut oil.
I really don't recommend using a heat gun for any reason other than to remove a dent.
