Hi all,

Does anyone know the procedure for replacing the ignition barrel please, I've just bought a replacement with the later key type to hopefully help towards security.

Cheers

Pete

Put key in turn to position one and there is a spring tang you push and hold in on the barrel housing and it will pull out by the key from what I remember :cool!:

Yep.
As above.
Use a largish flat head screwdriver to press the button tang thingy underneath and pull.

Jason.

Thanks for that, I've got it out but the replacement doesn't fit at all, oh well that's going back to Ebay.

Best security is a disclok but they are a pain to fit ,next best is a steering wheel lock which is much easier and quicker to fit everything else won't make much difference, alarms are a complete waste as the basic circuits protected are too easy bypassed. :cool!:

Basically I know that if they want your car, they are going to have it, what ever's fitted to it, I was hoping the new barrel would fit because of the extra security and it had two keys, I only have one at the moment but have heard that the old style Ford key blanks are getting harder to find.

You can get a non genuine blank key for a fiver , I think ford may even sell the genuine ones like mk2 fiestas still for not too much but the earlier style bigger key like mk2 escorts is in very short supply and silly monies !
