Hi all,

I've just received my brand spank me new KYB rear shocks, for starters I didn't realise they are made in Japan, anyway is it worth painting them before fitting them to stop them going rusty quickly?

If so what's the best paint to use nowadays?

Cheers

Pete

If they are bare steel yes. They won't be. They'll be painted in something.
My xr2 has had the same front and rear shocks for pretty much the time I've had the car...
I replaced them soon after getting the car.
15 years I think!

Mine are looking like they need replacing now and have some rust marks.
So chances are they'll be OK for the life of the shocker.

If you are talking coil overs ( you are not ) then I'd say yes as the coating does wear off quick and the threads corrode up super fast!

They seem to have some sort of satin black paint on them, I don't really want to too paint them but I want them too still look good a few years down the line, I suppose sticking a jet washer under the aches every now and then will help.

I didn't bother painting mine.
As I said 15 odd years they've been OK.
Will need replacing soon though.
