Evening,

I've got round to putting the new engine in the ghia today. Used an xr2i gearbox, mk2 xr2 cradle with the spacers and a modified xr2i cvh engine mount.

Engine sits level but obvs bonnet won't shut, my question is have people just cut away bonnet webbing or added extra spacers to the cradle as well as the 10mm standard ones?

Cheers Simon

Looking at the line of the wing to the rocker cover.. It looks like it sits proud of the wing. So will come out of the bonnet.
Way to check that is to run something like a length of straight wood along the wing tops and see if it hits the rocker cover.

I'm not familiar with the 'standard' RS2000 install.. But looking at that, I'd fit the extra spacers.
Just be minded that you may need longer bolts.

I know you've not finished.. But it looks tidy in there!
:)

It's not a bad as it looks as the inner skin of the bonnet in that area is quite a bit higher than where it is at the wing due to its shape. Going to cut a small section out the bonnet and see what happens. If I have to mod the engine mount and space the cradle I will, reluctant to though as sump already looks quite low! Hope it's worth it!

Just be really careful.
Mk2 bonnets are now VERY hard to get hold of. :(

Are these photos huge? For some reason the stupid photobucket app won't let me resize photo's.

Anyway this

Gave me this

I'm going to fabricate a section to go in the void that runs flat against the inner skin so it will look better. Might space the cradle and mount by 2 or 3mm if I decide I need a bit more clearance. This was much easier than I was expecting! Cheers Jason.

I never expected that to close , the pics made it look like you needed a big scoop to get anywhere near :cool!: You probably need to drop the engine up to 10mm as any engine mount movement could but a big dent in the bonnet !

As above.

I'm surprised some of the other guys running this engine haven't posted in here yet.

To be honest I was also very surprised! I'm going to use a ball of bluetack to try and guage how much clearance there is and go from there. So happy though as I'm after a stock look no scoops wings or bling!

Had the same issue with the MFI engine as the throttle body hit also one of these strenghtening parts of the bonnet. Cut it out like you did and didn'd have any dents after 14 years ;)
