Hi,
recently i have tried to check/adjust timing and fuelling on my mk1.
Using a timing light I have noticed that the timing mark does not appear in one place.
When the light comes on it is jumping between 4 and 12 degrees mark. I am having problems getting idle below 1400-1500RPM.

My question is if that might be some issue with the distributor or maybe timing chain?

In theory both could cause it but your chain would need to be jumping or verrrry slack.
Chances are the oilite bearing has worn inside the dizzee allowing shaft play causing the timing scatter.

Have you disconnected the vacuum line to the dissy and put a bolt in the end otherwise it will be advancing at those revs ?
