Not really sure this is the route I want to go down but I'm trying to reduce under bonnet temperatures and raise airflow to the carbs.

Someone must of done this before and if so can you give help and advice?

Pictures or even a kit that's for sale would be appreciated too.

My main concern is the bonnet flapping in the corners as there is no adjustable stoppers.

Thanks

Jon

Couple of guys have done it.
You can cut and weld the bracket to allow the bracket to slide up.

You can also fit larger rubbers to the corner of the engine bay. Although, I don't remember if the mk1 has the brackets the mk2 has in the corners?

Either way. It can be done.
But from an aerodynamic point of view, it's not good. Creates a turbulent area in front of the windscreen.
The hot air is actually drawn out of the sides of the bonnet, not the rear.

Thought of fitting pins in the corners and raising the bonnet catch (the one in the scuttle). It would be rock solid then.

Thanks Jason, good advice.

Bomber, tbh I did think about pins but I didn't want to cut holes in my bonnet.

I'm not sure that the single catch would hold it against the rubbers tight enough - even metal bonnets flap about due to the turbulence if you raise them.

See how you go :)

I left my bonnet open by mistake once and hit the motorway.
Had to pull over on the hard shoulder due to how high the bonnet was coming up!
At 70, it was dangerous. About a quarter open and half way up the windscreen!!

So yeah, there will be a fair bit of force on the catch.
But that will be true with the bonnet down and locked too.
