Why not lol

Do you really need 5 gears, my mk2 1.1 is a 4speeder and you only want a 5th gear when at motorway speeds to bring your revs down a bit but that made me think a nicely setup cvh with a 4speed box would be at the right revs to go hard

Think it was xr3 was 4 speed and the later xr3I was 5 speed , really you would want a mk1 xr2 4 speed for 18.5 mph/1000 revs as everything else will be silly low geared, remember my supersport was a bit annoying due to be far too low geared ..

Used to be a bit of a thing as few yrs back to diesel 4 cog rst just swapping diff out something about 2nd n 3rd being a bit longer or something didn't understand then still don't now would always be better to build a 5 spd to suit your needs iirc most of the gear sets can be mixed and matched in both to get the slightly longer 1st N 2nd but not completely screw motorway driving

Diesel ratios are hardly any different, unless it came from a mk2 Fiesta diesel ;)

Wasn't there a rumour.. Unfounded if I recall correctly, that fiesta/escort diesel boxes were stronger than regular boxes. Something to do with bigger bearings.

Seem to remember that too figured most of the ramblings to be much like pulling the baffles out of moped Exh logic it's louder so it's faster even if std ones move more quickly

Mk3 escort xr3s had 4speed boxes to start but the last 6months or so of mk3 xr3s had 5 speed boxes.

It was only an idea to have a 4speed box cos its cheaper than a s1 rst box that I'd really like lol

Yes its complete BS
Derv BC boxes are exactly the same as Petrol (inc RST LSD) boxes when it comes to bearings or case webbing strength
