Ah!
Actually.. Which dizzy are you fitting?
The early one with the separate module ( Bosch ) or the later one with the module on top of the dizzy ( Lucas )
As the Lucas has 2 bolts holding it. I'm sure I remember that the Bosch one has 3 bolts holding it on.

i can confirm the lucas definitely has only two bolts holding it on as my cvh has a lucas dizzy with module on top

Yes it looks like right one has it got the module on it can't see from this angle its about 28mm square and about 6mm thick and has a plug with 3pins,you will also need the socket and about 1/2 MTR of cable to reach the coil.

Yes. That is a later Lucas unit.
Make sure the cam has the slot in the end to accept this.
Although, changing the cam and followers might be wise anyway..

The dizzy plug is a 3 pin mini timer and I've put the wiring up on here a few times so it's easily searchable if you need it.

I think the dizzy is the same. I'm sure I remember reading that the ignition map does differ slightly though.

Have you got a coil too?

As long as your 957 wasn't on points, I'm sure you can use it.
But if it was on points, you need to change it and remove the balasdt resistor too.

1984.
It'll be points.
My wife's Ghia was.

The balasdt resistor is a grey wire hidden underneath the expansion tank.
It will need to be removed and a little rewiring to get it all working.

You mean the grey wire that i have in the hand?
How do i rewire it?

edit: during the check i saw there's a single small black wire that connects negative of coil to distributor. so, new distributor hasn't this connection....where i connect the negative of coil???

Yep.
That's the ballast resistor.

Here's how to wire it up.

Yes. Otherwise the coil doesn't get enough voltage and it runs pants.

You need to wire it up like the picture.
You will need to check your connections as your loom looks a little different to how I remember the one on my wife's Ghia.
I don't remember there being multiple wires going from each end of the connectors. Your loom may differ.
So check each end for continuity and voltage.

sorry, i don't want to make errors. Do i replace the grey wire (ballast resistor) with a normal cable?

As I recall, you wire the dizzy plug into those two ends.
But as I said. You will have to check those wires out yourself.

I used the dizzy plug and wires for the coil from an xr2 loom I had spare.
As I recall, I used that into those two ends where the ballast resistor was and I used part of the xr2 loom plugged into the condenser plug. But I don't remember for sure.
If you look at the wiring, it is fairly obvious.

If you were closer, I could help more.

Just thought.

You don't "need" to use part of an xr2 loom. I used that as it is what I had to hand at the time.

I think I remember it now..
You can get a 3 pin mini timer socket. That is the plug for the distributor.
A small wiring change to the loom to break into the negative coil wire is all that is needed as I recall and wire the earth wire from the dizzy plug to the bulkhead.

Yes you just remove the the larger section(ballast resist)from the cable(which reduces the power from 12v to 9v so you don't need this voltage reduction anymore and just extend this wire to the positive side of the new 12v coil this wire comes from the ign switch and is therefore live switched

Checked the wiring on my missus Ghia.
The 12v ignition live wire on the 3 pin mini timer socket for the dizzy connects to BOTH ends of the wires where the grey ballast resistor was removed.

You can break into the coil negative wire and an earth or add your own.

But as I mentioned . please check it out before hand in case there are differences between our UK wiring and what you have. I wouldn't expect anything drastically different. But best to check. Just in case.

Jason.
