Hi,

I have a few questions regarding ignition while using 40 sidedraught carbs on a 1600 xflow.

Engine runs on 224 Kentcams cam, standard vacuum distributor and ignition module.

1) What timing do You usually set with sidedraughts? Is it standard 8-10 deg or more?

2) Can You use vacuum on the distributor or should it be blanked off?

Vacuum will gain you marginal MPG. At full throttle it makes zero difference as vac will be 0 anyway. It depends what fuel your using, but I'd start around 12btdc on Super/VPower

Start at 12 deg and then what? Yup, I am using VPower 99 octane.

Marginal MPG from vacuum? Won't it cause any problems with ignition? I know that some say to blank it off completely.

As mentioned.
VAC advance doesn't do much on twin carbs due to the way they work.
Most tuners disconnect the VAC advance on a dizzy.

Start the car with 12 degrees advance and tweek it from there.
With wild cams you may need to advance it a bit more.

But forget asking us as we're cash only give advice.
Take it somewhere and get it set up properly.

Jason.
