right, went yhe oil pump was changed in me zetec, the oil used was 5-30!!

when she went for mapping, the carbs were coughing back quite bad, tommy field changed all the carb internals and its till dun it, so he changed the oil for 0-30, and the coughin bac problem stopped!!!

was out last nite and she got a good thrashing, but after, on idle, the oil light was on, rev it up and it goes off!! killed the engine, left it for half hour then drove home and idled the same, but this time wiv no oil light!!

ovbiously the oil is becoming to hot therfore the pressure is droppin, don't want this to happen, but if i go bac to 5-30 the liklehood is that she'l cough back!!!

any ideas??

Have you got a breathing kit on it at all? I'd speak to Tom, and do what he suggests - never a bad bit of advice i've had from him.

Just a quick Question: Are you sure your oil pump is working ok?

check the oil pressure is perfect, even new stuff can sometimes break mate.as said above, uprated engines breather heavier, therefore needs an uprated breather system.might sound silly, but could even be electrical(the oil light anyway)ideally you need to eiliminate all the obvious stuff first, before you dig deeper mate.

If it's thin though, it'll run down faster as well... ;)

Dont now if it will help mate. But when I finished building my zetec for my yellow XR2, Im popped into my local Ford dealer and asked for oil for a 2.0 ltr zetec, and he gave me a tub of 10/30 :? . Now I asked him if that was correct, as that's the same grade of oil i've alway's used in my cvh's which is a older engine.

But he assured me it was the correct oil. So I bought it and it's been in my engine since. Ok I have'nt done hardly any miles yet  , but it's been started lot's of time's and the oil light goes out when it should, and never has come on when it should'nt.

I've also just checked the haynes manual, and it say's in there;

'Multigrade engine oil, viscosity 5w/30, 5w/40, 10w/30 or 10w/40'.

So it may help trying a slightly thicker oil :? . Hope the info help's out mate.

Rob.

just a point mate, but if the oil pressure is still low with the new pump and proper oil you may wanna look at bottom end bearings....

cheers for the advice guys!!!

all helps, gna b takin it out lata to brands, see what happens!!!

rob - when the oil pump was changed, we put 5 - 30 in it, but tommy sed that was y it was coughing back thro the carbs!!!

he put the 0 - 30 in it and it hasnt coughed once :? :?

hopefully it was jus cos the oil level dropped, all day at the thrash last week the oil light neva came on once, and she was driven hard pretty much all day

As you said, Tommy now's his stuff so I would of thought the oil he recommended would be correct. Im going to change my oil to a better grade once it's done a few mile's. I will change it for atleast a semi-synthetic Ford oil.

You dont want a low oil level, as then you run the risk of getting a bit of oil surge in the sump. That will cause the oil light to come on, and lead to big problem's :? .

Maybe worth looking into getting a baffled sump made up. Would be a good idea for mine as it's been built for the track.

Rob.

Make a 'gated' sump :) like a little door that swings closed when cornering hard and on lift off allows oil to circulate again.
