Alllllllllllllllllllllrighty then.

I know this has been covered in the past, but I need some knowledge.

I haven't had a working rev counter for a couple years now.

Finally thought I try and get to the bottom of it.

So I've tried wiring from the old coil plug to the M/J unit, no joy.

I've also tried wiring from the the back of the clocks to the m/j unit, no joy.

And finally I've tried from the coil to the to the edis, with no joy.

Could the solder on the clocks be dry?

Guessing there's not much else to try apart from an after market counter, but I don't really want that.

Many thanks.

I run megajolt on xr2 clocks and have a working rev counter.
As far as i can tell it's accurate.
Or it bounces on the rev limiter in the right place.
:)

Iirc ( from memory so excuse me if I'm wrong ) my e is connected to pin 11 on the edis unit.
Connected to the xr2 negative coil wire ( green ).
Works like a charm.

So yes.
If that doesn't work.
Take the clock out and check the solder points.
If that doesn't work. Replace all of the capacitors.
You need the radial type.
Values are printed on them.
;)

I've tried this and it doesn't work for me.
My car was originally a diesel and the rev counter was driven by the alternator. This was fine upto the point when I changed the alternator, the new one doesn't have a connection that would drive the rev counter.
Question is is there a difference between the rev counters on the petrol & diesel cars?
Thanks Mark

Must be.
As the petrol cars rev counters are driven from the coil.

Thought that might be the case, but what is the difference and how can I over come it?

I've never seen an alternator version ( Diesel ). So never taken one apart.
But I doubt you can get one to work unless you fit an inline circuit.

Have a look in the classic car circles to find a 'do-hicky' that makes an alternator rev counter work with a coil.
Failing that.
Just get an XR2 / Petrol rev counter and fit that instead!
