I am currently in the process of doing a zetec conversion. I have used the 16V radiator and fan as was told these fit fine. However when mocking it up it appears the radiator doesn’t line up with anything so a tad confused as to how it is fitted – is it a case of just fixing it the car where ever it fits.

Pics?

I've seen a few done with the fiesta mk3 16v rad and they fit fine.
I think the hoses need shortening slightly due to the mk1 /2 being shorter than the mk3.

That's why I've always recommended using that rad if upgrading from a none xr2 mk2.

Iirc it is longer across the front of the car.
But not loads wider. A couple of cm 5 or 6 at most?

Something like 560cm with the xr2 mk2 one being about 50cm long?
Xr2i 16v rad should have the fan switch hole in it.
A 22mm threaded hole.

Right, so i would need to cut some slots in the crossmember for it to slide in? And then some holes behind the grill to attach it at the top perhaps??

that would be sensible yes, you can always hold it in with zip ties as a temporary measure to make sure nothing rubs. I used a saxo radiator on my zetec install and mounted it forward of the crossmember at the bottom, to locate its mounting pegs i attached a couple of bits of box section with a hole drilled in them at the bottom.

Looks about right to me.
As mentioned. Cip there top mounts crown and push the bottom of the rad into the gap at the front.

Ross's solution is by far the best over seen so far.

i run a xr2i / rs1800i rad with the mk3 hoses in my mk2 with a silvertop, i ran a st170 (blacktop) for a while and bottom hose was crap fit, i shortened the alloy part of the engine to get it to fit better.

Fan switch hose isn't needed on the 2i rad. It's built into the rad.
Whole point of fitting the 2i rad in the first place.
