If I plant my foot hard on the accelerator there is a massive bang. It only does it when you place your foot on the pedal after changing gear etc, not when pedal is half pressed. It is like driving into a wall! Ha. Could this be gearbox or engine mounts? Or could it be driveshaft related? I bought the car with the conversion done so don't know it's history. Sorry for waffling, any help appreciated.

What sort of bang?
Electrical, mechanical, exhaust?

What sort of installation do you have? Any pictures of the engine bay?

It could be loads of things.
Engine and gearbox mounts broken or weak meaning the intake manifold hits the bulkhead.
Could be the exhaust or manifold hitting the floor due to the mounts broken. Could be the exhaust manifold hitting the front cross member. Alternator hitting the cross member.
Could be the springs becoming unloaded and something hitting there.
Gearbox not tightened up and moving ( I've seen this!! )
Gearbox mount member lose.
Tie bars lose, tie bar bushes worn. ( usually feels vague at the steering )

Start with the engine and box mounts and go I from there.

Jason.

It's definately a mechanical bang, the whole dash board rattles. It's deffo something moving. It's rs1800 efi engine and I think it's the cvh gearbox.

Inlet manifold hitting bulk head could be favourite. How's best to test this? Setting off slowly with handbrake on maybe so someone can watch the engine move?

Just put the car in gear, don't start it.

Then open the bonnet and rock the car back and forth and see how much the engine/gearbox moves.

Support the gearbox and remove cradle and fit rover v8 round mounts from underneath

If you've got the money, I'd invest in at least one vibra technics gearbox mount.

Not feeling the price of the vibes technics ones! Anyone got a link to the rover v8 ones, seen 2 or 3 different ones.

I'll probably be doing the gearbox mounts on the Ghia tomorrow.
One is broken.
I bought the first line standard replacement ones..

I'll let you know how it goes.
If I don't post again, someone pull me out from underneath a fiesta.

Jason.
