In my car, I have a 1.8 zetec.
Fed by a 34DATR.
The exhaust is a cvh ( xr2 ) Janspeed manifold and until last week an unknown brand stainless 2inch pipe exhaust.
One large box and a stupid huge tail pipe.
It cracked.
So, to keep me mobile whilst I sort out a repair to it I put the Janspeed system back on it ( after fixing a hole ).

One thing that strikes me is..
1. It is so much quieter than the stainless pipe. Which I prefer a quieter system as I can hear the radio now and the neighbours don't skoawl at me so much now.
But.
2. It has slowed the car down so much! Or rather the pickup isn't there the way it was.

Now I know the Janspeed manifold isn't helping at all and I intend on changing it for an St manifold once I sort it out...
. But I was really shocked by how much power is sapped by the Janspeed pipe and back box.

So my questions. :)
What would you guys recommend as the 'go to' system on a 1.8 zetec?

Any suggestions on how I might make the stainless system a little less noisy without sapping the power like the Janspeed does?
I will be changing the tail pipe for something a little smaller as small children can shelter in it at the moment.
I think it's a 3inch opening. Outward rolled so looks larger still!
It's being changed for a 2.5 inch inward rolled end.
Is it worth fitting a perforated pipe into the back pipe? Or will that make it louder?
Add another box like on the Janspeed? But will that sap the power?

Any advice appreciated.

Jason.

Does anyone know if I put a resonator into my exhaust after their main box, if it will quieten the system down a bit?
Or will it make it more boomy?

I want to quieten the stainless system I have, but not restrict it too much.

I can only say what i run, I'm using a st170 manifold coupled to a magnex system with the front silencer from a ashley repacked and welded in line. It's extremely quiet at tickover but has a nice note under load. I used it to commute 140miles a day on the M1/A1 for 7 months and it was fine. I have a full interior with a layer of silentcoat covering the inner bulkehad and floor though.

Yeah.. No carpet in mine doesn't help.
But I want to quieten it down outside as well as inside.
The neighbours are complaining. Not directly yet but I hear them whisper...
( Just about with the tinnitus that the stainless steel exhaust gave me. )

Surely you could takeout the box that's on there and just fit a larger one?

Powerflow or something?

The box on there is huge! Couldn't get a larger one under the car.

Dunno the make. It's unbranded.

you could cut it open and fill it with more fibreglass packing, my in-line silencer made a big difference though.

I was thinking of putting one of these on after the box.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360979253088
:eh:

With the tail pipe straight after that. with a section of the perforated steel mesh stuff in.
I want to quieten it down without slowing it down.

The Janspeed is nice and quiet. But holy cow it's just killed the performance.
It reminds me of the CVH it's that bad!
This exhaust on the CVH was brilliant! But on the Zetec it's just pants! :(

I put a res can up front on mine to settle exh tone quietened it down a bit seemed to give a better torque feel and improved fuel consumption a bit was more to remove the harshness of rasp than anything else though

From many times pissing about with my exhaust over the years I've found that a resonator at rear makes sound deeper but has little effect on much else
Sometimes changing the tail pipe can have a big effect for instance an outward rolled tail pipe gives a different tone to straight cut pipe
I put a scorpion tail pipe resonator on the 1.3 std exh and it Made it louder

It's got a 3inch outward roll end on it at the moment.
I'm replacing it with a 2.5inch inward roll end.
