I'm putting a puma 1700 into my mk1 fezz

I'm very handy but I only want to cut once.

I now know I can't use the cradle underneath as the hole spacing isn't the same on the puma box to put the bracket on for the cradle. Not a problem. My plan to keep things simple was line up the puma box with the 4 speed and just cut out the n/s chassis fail to take the extra length of the box like everyone does for the 5 speed conversion

Now my problem is if out the puma box I the same position as the 4 speed then this doesn't leave me enough room to actually put the engine in
So do i cut the other chassis rail on the o/s so I can fit the engine in namely the pulleys or drag the whole engine and box over so I only cut the n/s chassis rail. But I'm thinking that I'll have a nightmare with drive shaft lengths then. If I do that I'm gonna have to move the box over by at least 100mm which seems way to much but it's the only was to get everything in without cutting the o/s chassis rail

Any help would be appreciated

Ben

Hello i have done both mk1 and mk2 fiesta with puma 1.7 now on the mk1 we had to cut both sides but we are using the 5 speed bc escort rs turbo gearboxes easier to get lsd and keeps the cable
it is a lot tighter in a mk1 but both cars have been on the road for 2 years i do have pics if you have an email

Spot on mate. From a bit of measuring I guessed I had to cut both sides or drive shaft issues would be massive problem if I had to move everything over soooo much

I'm guessin u kept the new box inline with the old ?

Send the pics to
Reedy107@aol.com

That would be sound

So does the mk1 have a narrower width in the engine bay then ?

I have puma engine in my mk2 xr2. It fits with plenty of room on both the left and right and the standard shafts were ok.

I can measure between the chassis rails. Mk1 cant be that much smaller?

Although i used a Mk1 focus gearbox and not the puma gearbox as it was light.
