I run a 2.0 blacktop, twin 45 carbs, xr2 rad. And no oil cooler.

When the car gets hot and sits and idles, it's starts to smoke out the back, light blue and smells of oil.

Do people think it's the fact I'm not running an oil cooler?

Could be a problem with an oil seal, or over filled.
Oil seals in the head ( valve seals ) or oil getting past the piston rings.
Check the oil level first. If it's high, its probably pushing past the rings. I did that in mine when I first fitted it!
:wall: :( Lucky it was sorted quickly.

Check the oil temperature before fitting an oil cooler kit.
I have an oil temp gauge with the sender in the sump.
My temp rarely goes over 80degree's and I've never seen it over 100.
If it's often over 80. I.e. 90+, get a cooler otherwise it's not needed.

Jason.

Cheers for the input dude,

I bought a 60 thousand mile focus and drove it home from horsham to uxbridge with no problems and no smoke at all.

I then fitted the engine to my fiesta and changed the oil and filter. I've always checked the oil and it's not over filled.

I first noticed it after getting the car on the road. I drove to retrorides gathering, 2 and a half hour drive with no issues, and then I got to the event and sat in a que for an hour with the car turned on and off in the wait. Once restarted and left idling and slowly driving into the show, it started to smoke a fair amount.

Pretty sure it's not rings as it clears up after a drive or a fair amount of revving,

Valve stem seals are definitely worth looking at,

I only say oil cooler as it's always once warm, but I may look into putting an oil temp Gauage in and checking to see what temp the oil reaches.

Cheers dude.
