I'm going to go down the route of fitting a 1.8 zetec engine into my mk1 fiesta. I am going to run it on bike carbs but unsure which carbs to use. I've been told to use zx9r carbs but do I use the ones with float chambers or the ones that require an ECU. Any or as much info on this would be much appreciated and any other info ir parts that are needed on the zetec conversion would be great.

Cheers mark

We would use any of the following:

R6 (37mm)
ZX6R (37mm)
YZF600 (37mm)
CBR600 FX/FY (37mm)
ZX9R (C model onwards for TPS) (40mm)
R1 (40mm)
CBR900 (38mm)

All of the above have a TPS as standard and thus can be used with an aftermarket ignition ECU such as NODIZ (you might not run this initially but gives you the scope to upgrade at a later date). All are very good carbs, 37mm are ideal for a mild/fast road spec up to 175bhp - if aiming higher go for 40mm.

To clarify.
You will have to run some sort of ECU to get it working.

Obviously, the zetec has no provision for a distributor.
The Ford EEC units used on the zetec controlling both fueling and ignition.

Jason.
