Hey guys,
Looking for some help! Tossing up between CVH (because it's simple) and Zetec (as its just better).

Not got a huge pot at the minute but just curious they easiest and cheapest way of getting a Zetec in my mk2 1.1 to get it going then fine tune + upgrade down the road. Not looking for huge power or nout straight away.

What can you recommend?
:cool!:
Thanks

I know it's a real shoe string but at the minute £500, I will get more together over the next few months. I have a 5 speed box, linkage, xr long driveshaft and a xr2 mani and crb as originally was going to do a cvh, but wondering what a budget Zetec would be
Cheers

When I did mine back in 2008, it cost me about £600 if I recall correctly.
I recon I could have done it for £300 at a push.

I've since spent much more getting it to a better place.
Megajolt etc..

Cost wise now?
It really depends on what engine package you get and how complete it is.
Also, if you want carb or injection.

Get a silvertop 1.8 105 or 115 engine from a fiesta or escort for say. £150?
Facet fuel pump. £50
Cvh to zetec inlet adaptor. £60
Xr2/zetec exhaust manifold ( peco? ) £150
Second hand megajolt. £180.
Xr2i radiator. £50

£640 there alone.
Plus "other" bits needed like hoses, fuel lines, xr2 rear exhaust ......

Jason.

What sort of power can easily / readily be got out of a 1.8?
And I'm guessing running carbs is easier but more expensive?

Thanks!!

130bhp out of the box
Where abouts are you as I'm breaking a couple of 130bhp zetec escorts
And would be willing to sell a whole car

Some are 130
They come in 105, 115 and 130 bhp guise
All depends on what you do to them really
My old track car had 170+ bhp on a 1.8

Thanks big, nice. What set up was that?

So 1.8 is easist due to not needing to change sump and flywheel?
Then carbs are easiest but more money (for a decent set)

the very easiest is the fiesta rs1800 because it has the correct sump/flywheel like the escort but also the correct inlet manifold

Mk5/5b and early mk6 escorts have the the correct metal Efi inlet
The flywheel is different on the 130bhp escort zetecs as they run a mtx 75 gearbox
The fiesta rs1800 runs the bc5 gearbox with the smaller flywheel

Been offered a 1.8 Zetec 130bhp spec from a mk5 xr3i with inlet, loom, ecu, downpipe and sensors etc

So I'd need to change the clutch though? The inlet should fit? Anything else I need / would be useful off the original engine/car?

Cheers for all replays!!

You will need to change the flywheel and clutch if it's a proper 130bhp

Or get the gearbox and starter with it and use those instead of the mk2 fiesta stuff.

As you're going injection, you will need an injection fuel tank.
So a mk2 injection tank or a modified mk2 tank.
Or, an external swirl pot and pump.

Other stuff off the car?
The injection pump.

Also.
Does your car have a fuel return pipe?
If not, you will need to fit one.

Jason.

Ok great, the gearbox I have may be diesel (how can I tell?) so getting a xr3i gearbox would be a better option?

And 2009 1.6 zetec flywheel and clutch ok? Or do I need to go later?

2009 zetec.
Isn't that blacktop? I don't know if you can use a blacktop flywheel or not.
I used a cvh efi flywheel on mine as its lighter and it was sat in the shed anyway. :)

Diesel box? You need to check the numbers on the tab. Not the ones on the casing.
3i box is supposed to be quite good I think. So given the option, I'd fit that over a suspected diesel box for sure.

I have a 5 speed linkage that goes with the box I have, do they differ between the bc boxes?

The mtx box is a lot more work to fit
2009 zetec engine is different
The linkage with the 130 mtx box is different from the bc linkage aswell

Depends on the system.
I used a cvh bracket, cvh alternator and zetec pulley.
But I'm not using any of the zetec wiring.
So yeah, what you say should work.

ive got a 1.8 blacktop zetec 60,000 miles on it out a focus
in kent also. if you collected it its yours for 80 quid.
when I did my conversion I used the chester sports cars zetec carb package .
thinke it was 800 quid ish . for that you get zx6r carbs . inlet mani and megajolt ecu.
I went with bike carbs as it looked like the easiest way to convert to zetec power. and it was .
if I did it again though id go injection as my little fez drinks fuel like mad .
if you drive like a granny its not to bad. but lets face it none of us are going zetec to drive it like a gran out for a sunday drive .
bare in mind though mine is a 2.0 zetec not a 1.8
also has headwork and cams .

Thanks MK2 but collecting a silver top next weekend from a mk5 xr3i 130bhp spec.
Couple of questions;
Can I run the xr3i flywheel?
Can I use my 1.1 cradle with a 10mm spacer to lower engine right?
And zetec alternator on a CVH mount works correct? Thanks

You can use the 1.1 cradle. With spacers.
You need longer bolts.

The rest of your questions have been answered above.

Sorry didn't mean to ask the flywheel question again, wanted to make sure the zetec alternator fits? You said you used cvh alt right and other guides I found used cvh alt too.
I'll have an ask on FB
Cheers!

Some newer alternators are tied into the ECU.
So you need to check if the zetec ECU you are using needs this.

I didn't use the zetec ECU. The zetec alternator has a different plug on the rear. So I just used the cvh one I had from my exiting cvh engine.

As long as you can mount the zetec alternator to the cvh mount, it should be fine.

Jason.
