My mk2 xr2 has had a blacktop 2.0 fitted now for a while. But it has an awful 'drill like' vibration which is there from idle. I changed the plugs in case it was a small misfire, the leads were new but it runs well from idle all the way through the rev range and none of this made any difference.

If I press in the clutch in, the vibration stays so I don't think it's a clutch/flywheel problem. It does have a silvertop sump and baffle plate. I remember reading on the blacktop the sump acts to brace the engine better? When I fitted the baffle I obviously had to undo the main caps and replace with spacers/bolt studs. But these were done one at a time and re-torqued correctly.

The gearbox mounts are new but the engine one isn't, although I jacked up the engine to take the weight off the mount and again it made no difference.

Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers

What flywheel you using if it's a cvh one have you possibly elongate the holes to much causing an imbalance.
Did you cut the engine mount on the car as it fouls the timing belt tensioner?
Take the auxiliary belt of and run it BRIEFLY to elemental that side of things?
Wrong thrust bearing for pressure plate?
Get a video up.

It is a CVH EFi flywheel but the holes seemed pretty tight for the 11mm zetec flywheel bolts after elongating them. Part of me is tempted to get a zetec flywheel and swap it out - as I only used the CVH one as I had it.
When I modded the engine mount it cleared everything and the tensioner doesn't touch the chassis mount either.
Will take the aux belt off when I get chance as it's going on a trip tomorrow - see how it performs.
The clutch kit was a new 3 piece for a cvh efi setup on the cvh bc5 gearbox - just to get it going and see how it coped on the 2.0 - again it's what I had when I fitted the blacktop as I had no time due to a house move to source parts prior to it's MOT.
Cheers for the ideas.

Why do I keep reading of people elongating the holes in the cvh flywheel?

You don't elongate them at all.
You just open them out by .5 mm if I recall correctly.

Bolt holes are wider, not oval.

Have you checked the belts are tensioned correctly?
Cps is screwed in tight and not moving?
Timing?

Jason.

Gents apologies for the confusion the use of the word elongation ie enlarge did possibly throw you but you get the just, so other words "drill out, increase diameter" and so on  . Unless you didn't have a big enough drill bit then you elongate  .

Anyway to the point now I don't think you can really can offset the flywheel as I,m sure the crankshaft has a machined step to centralise the flywheel, I think. It,s been a while while since I put my engine together.
What are you using for fueling? As if you are using bike carbs or throttle bodies they may not be balanced causing rough idle. Doesn't explain the drill like sound though , sound more like something is binding/fowling.
