I know 200bhp is achievable.
But.

How "realistic" is it to get a real, drivable, usable 200bhp from a carb setup?
Be it single carb or bike carbs.

So.
No injectors, no turbo.

I seem to remember Jamie getting around 190bhp from his 2.0 zetec.
But that was running jenveys. I can't remember if he ran cams or not and sure it hadn't had head work done.

I can imagine 150-160bhp being achievable with a 2.0 zetec, head work, cams, megajolt with a tuned map and tuned dmtr.
But I don't see twin 45's breaking the magic 200bhp without getting silly on the money front.

Anyone have any input?

Jason.

Depends on how driveable you want it to be, with some peaky cams you could probably see 200hp with all other usual bits like verniers, head work, bigger valves, uprated pistons and rods etc.. Its all how much you want to spend really..

The key words being realistic, drivable and not spend silly money.

So basically. No I'm guessing.

Fair enough.
150bhp ish will probably be plenty.
:)

180/190 bhp is easily achievable with carbs. Ported head with skim for compression, 285 cams, 45's, megajolt and a good exhaust manifold will see a perfectly usable drivable 180-190bhp. I ran this setup for ages, everyday with no problems. It only let go through shear stupidity on my behalf.

A stock silvertop with a good carb setup and exhaust with megajolt should see 150bhp, a blacktop with will be closer to 160bhp. Cams should see 15-20bhp more

When I first ran a blacktop I had 45's, st170 exhaust manifold, megajolt and cams and saw 170, playing with the cam timing saw 180bhp with a little loss down low. Still perfectly drivable and used every day.

200 is easy. The only issue you will have is can you afford it.

Did you see much gains with cams on the Blacktop up to 7krevs or did you need to rev it over 7k to get the Benefit of them.

I'll probably stick to a cheaper setup I think.

I'm running a standard 2.0 blacktop.
Twin 45 dellortos
Modded st170 exhaust manifold
Megajolt with a tps set up.

Had it rolling roaded last month and it's producing 169.4 bhp.

I'd like to step it up with the engine tho.

Jason if your going zetec why not use a set of Dcnf's with a zetec adaptor plate, I would imagine decent power from them 160ish bhp but not quite your 200. But drive ability and fuel economy on a standard zetec should be good. I have a set of these for my next conversion, hopefully so much less trouble to set up.

I've got a 'few' 32 and 34 Weber DMTR's knocking about.

I think my spec will go as follows:
2.0 Zetec bottom end.
1.8 Zetec head ( ALD port and polish )
34 DMTR weber.
- On a ported, polished and rotated CVH adapted to Zetec inlet manifold.
Numan cams ( from the XRTwo group buy )
Megajolt.
105speed exhaust manifold.
ARP rod bolts.

Will use a CVH flywheel for quicker spin up if I can find a clutch I can use with a Type 9 and a hydraulic clutch.

Probably should have said this is for the Cortina.
I've got all the parts already other than the 105speed manifold and the adapted CVH inlet.

Realistically, I see that making a 145 - 160bhp.

Jason.

I'd be happy with 170bhp. Will I get anymore with having st170 pistons and rods, Ported inlet, dcoes, adjustable cat cam pulleys?

I realistically would want 180-190bhp. Would I need cams for that

I'd be happy if you had an MOT, Road Tax and insurance on your car!
How long has this thing been off the road now and almost ready?!!

I'm thinking the St pistons are just gonna be stronger.

I should imagine you'll get the same sort of figures from your set up.

I also have a ported inlet on my car. Cams are probably the way for a little more power.

Will see once it's on the road and tbh will be happy if it's hits 170bhp. Anything over would be a bonus

my old zetec was a standard 2.0 bottom (120k ish ) polished 1.8 head all silvertop with std valve springs just piper 285 cams, on 45 jenveys, 194bhp revving to 7800rpm all mot friendly drove spot on well worth spending the money on the jenvey set up, can be used as a daily or track weapon. in fact iv just built a st170 set up on 48mm bodies running around 235bhp and i sort of prefer my old silvertop set up.
