right finally got the mk2 an mot yesterday .
took her for a quick spin drives fine around town on off throttle .
so took car on a A road for a faster test drive and she runs out of fuel on full chat.
can hear bike pump rattling away . turn car off ,turn key back on to power pump back up, rattles then fuel filter fills up and pump shuts up ,runs fine till I give it welly then same thing .
car is running bike carbs (zx6r) 2.0 silvertop .
I have mounted my bike pump in the bay .
would it be better off mounted nearer to the tank ??

My setup is tank, filter, pump, carb.
So that's fine.

What pressure and flow is the pump putting out?
Could be a faulty pump.
Not enough flow.

Where is the pump fitted?

What size feed pipe are you using?
Do you have a return fitted? - if so, where.

Jason.

You say pump is in the bay, it really needs to be near the tank as they prefer to push not pull fuel through.

pump is on the bigger of the two metal fuel lines on bulkhead other smaller pipe what I thought was the return is banked off. I remember when I put the zetec in I blew down both these pipes . the fatter one made bubbles in the tank  the smaller one no bubbles so took the fat pipe as my feed and blanked other off.
fuel pipe I used was 8mm. pump was mounted where metal fuel pipes ended so about halfway up bulkhead .
as for flow and pressure im not sure . I do have a one way fuel valve just befor carbs . to stop the pump having to prime fuel lines and filter every time I turn it off . its giving me the hump :wall:

looked like a right tool in front of a clio 172 yesterday . pulled up to lights, young lad revs the 172 so I think to myself right kid your on . left the lad standing at the lights .
id got to third gear grabbed for fourth ,loads of popping and banging on overrun.
then car dies . spotty little toad in the 172 gives me the finger and F"s off .
cant wait for that rematch ..... :drive:

As mentioned above.
The bike carb pumps are 'pushers' rather than 'pullers'.
So these are usually better fitted nearer the tank than in the engine bay..

But it could also have a split diaphram and that's why it runs out of welly.. So best to check it out.

Jason.

ill mount it nearer to the tank if that don't work ill get a new one.
it has been sat for some time so a split diaphragm is a possibility.
any one got any recommendations on where I should be mounting it ??
thanks lads for your help.

Usual mounting point is next to the tank on the vertical panel under the seat base to the floor.
