Getting somewhere now! engine cranks on the key and we have a spark! Thanks to everyone for the help and advice.
I wired the Zetec alternator up the same as the cross flow one and the alternator gets really hot even with ignition off.????
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong????
searched forums but can't find anything to say it needs wiring any differently.

I am using the standard xr2 alternator on my setup.
Unless you are using the full zetec loom and ecu and it's one of the later setups that needs the zetec alt.. Use the original fiesta one.
But it sounds like something is wrong or the alt is knackered.

Hi Jason,
What did you do, just change the pulley to the Zetec one?
