Had a conversation with my gaffer today, and we have all probaly got similar. Anyway, the short of it is that his first car was a mk1 popular or somthing and can remember going to his local scrappy and having the round headlamps and surrounds Etc . Just because he wanted an Xr2 but couldn't afford one . Funny thing is 30 years down the line he still can't ! Like c6rwn said " madness"

My first car was a mk1 1.1 pop plus as well and I went down the scrappy for a set of pepperpots and came home with a Caspian blue mk1 xr2 that the owners son had rallied round the yard and crashed as it had no brakes but it was undamaged when it came in  The lights didn't break though luckily but the bumper was flat . Later found out they wouldn't sell the wheels as the lock nuts wouldn't come off
When I stripped it I found it had a roof cut and shut half way up the pillars , tidy looking job on the outside but dangerous :wall:

Think this is mad kgf has an escort mexico mk1 for 55k , lets not forget they have the same 1.6 crossflow engine

and to think I chopped up a mk1 xr2 2 years ago and scrapped it :wall:

Are they actually SELLING at these prices though?

Can list something for anything you want...
... Doesn't mean someone will pay that though.

Jason.

Pretty much everything that KGF list ends up selling, dunno what actual price, or how much of a sellers fee they take.

Brilliant innit. There's still quite a lot of rusty end of life sheds around that have been sitting in lock-ups waiting for the prices to rise, at this rate you could throw £20k on a decent restoration and still be quids in once the car's been completed.

Still got my red show XR2 from a few years ago sat in my garage, don't intend to drive it again but I am planning on selling it in about 3 years time to top up my money for a deposit for a house because my money is making more money there than it will be in any bank

Yeah.
But did someone PAY that money for it?

I've heard mixed reviews of some of these companies and their "Sales" records.

Vehicles being "sold" then 6 months later up for sale again with the same company.
Vehicles going to Ireland seems to happen a lot too.

I'm not saying anything illegal or dishonest is happening.
But it just seems strange to me that so many appear for sale again so soon or go to Ireland.
I didn't know Ireland was the car collection capital.

Jason.

Jason we bought all the fast fiesta's up years ago when you lot didn't want them and they were cheap  All ours were driven hard and were dailys and rotted away long ago, try finding an original northern Ireland xr2 over here they don't exist ! so the only place we could get them was England .At least half the cars now in Northern Ireland were sold new in the uk especially faster cars as few over here few can afford them new .
Now they are expensive I see a lot of them going back again this last while as owners cash in . Nearly All cars in northern Ireland have retained their original uk reg (like mine) and as we are now ruled by swansea just like you it's simple to take the cars back over again

Southern Ireland was a different matter , road tax etc on high performance cars was and is very severe so xr2's were never bought or imported as there was a big import tax to pay as well .

I do see some suspect dealings on ebay where cars sell at dealers and then reappear again for sale 3 months later !

KGF seems to advertises cars they have already sold on ebay as they use the ad as a tool do try and find more stock and tempt owners into selling with the promise of high prices.
I did notice a certain supersport that was for sale for 25k was it is now 19k and I know there is another dealer has hoarded at least 3 superports which given how rare they are is a lot but with the silly price asked they still own them all and have done for several years it seems. Its maybe a waiting game and the classic car business seems to be based on how much they will go up and everybody is an investor who locks away their cars for 3 years then expects 50% extra for storage . Prices are silly and it has to end somewhere as 20k for a mk1 is just silly  :wall: :cool!:
I supect if we knew what was really happening behind the scenes then the classic market would go tits up virtually overnight with panic selling !!!!!!!!!!!!
Investment and cars don't go well together
We are the last generation of enthusiasts who drove our cars ,the next are mostly investors it seems .......... That silver xr2 that sold I'm sure it had the same 70k about 20 years ago , owned several years and still have 70k enough said !

"Last sold by KGF Classic Cars to a discerning Ford collector" :drive:

I work for a restoration company, we restore vintage Bugattis, Alphas, Maseratis etc. As such I get all the big auction catalogues and normally attend. Last year I saw 2 MK1 XR2's in auctions surrounded by 50k Mk1 Escorts and 100k Sierra RS500's. Both XR2s sold for higher estimate, one a bit rusty at 16k, one absolutely mint with all the pdi marks and stickers still in place for circa 22k once all the fees and VAT included. They were both bought by collectors to whom money isn't an object. So yes they are selling but unfortunately not to us Jason! Go to any auction now and fast fords are hot hot hot.

Simon
